You need 1/8 inch between tremolo and guitar body . You look to have less . Is a matter of taste ?

Fender manual recommends 1/8 of an inch clearance. Custom Shop master builder recommends 3/32 of an inch. I'm going to check mine when I get home. To an extent it is personal taste.

It appears to be a hair under 3/32 - hard be exact since my feeler gauges don't add up to that much. It's close. You are right though, just a hair lower. Probably be a good starting point if I change to 10's for strings which I might do. It's good though, stays in tune.

When Leo Fender and friends designed this vibrato system, dive bombing was still the province of the military. The limitations of that system were the impetus for Floyd and Khaler to find a way to satisfy the needs of the players who needed to fly jets. You'll find a locking trem on the Fender Standard HSS, which may suit your needs.
