If you really have a serious Jones for that guitar, I would contact Wildwood Guitars ASAP and ask them if they can get you one of the first 54 guitars being produced so you can also have the commemorative neck plate. You'll need to be willing to buy that guitar on faith having never played it, as well as paying the asking price. Wildwood is a major Fender Custom Shop Signature dealer. They really cornered the market on the Gilmour five years ago, so I'd try them first and don't wait. The special perks which accompany some of these projects always seem to wind up in the hands of people on the inside, if you get my drift.

I saw this guitar at Namm and picked it up and it seems to be a pretty decent guitar, with weight, neck shape and frets. 1954 are being made with all the case candy duplicated for that year. I may get one, if the price is not too high. I have no clue what the street prices are on these guitars. :D

It looks nice. I don't see whether or not it has the rounded pickup covers or the mini-skirt knobs. The American Vintage series is about details so I expect it would. Any one know fer sure? I see the Custom Shop 60th Anniversary Heavy Relic has those features but then blows it by going with a 9.5" radius neck and 5-way switch (I don't know if if they include the 3-way as does the American Vintage).

My FSR AV Ltd. Ed. '57 Strat is detailed right down to a true 'V' neck, 7.25" Radius, even a .1uf Cap on the Neck Tone Pot and Ashtray. The 3-way Grigsby Switch is standard w/ Vintage wiring. An optional modern 5-way switch included in the Case Candy, but requires re-wiring to install it.

I expect the '54 will be similarly detailed.

cheers!

this one looks very cool.

the opportunity to have an exact recreation of the first strat ever produced is an awesome deal. looks like a sweet guitar too. I would almost go for it, but the '56 is perfection. that was when it was like completed.

Then....there are those of us who would argue that the '57 holds that honor. There's no accounting for tastes.

yeah, aren't they pretty much the same. only difference I see is the contour is a little bit sexier, so yes, the '57 is perfection, but I mean I don't know I could back and forth between which is better.

'57 supposed to have the deepest waist cut of any year as well as a v-neck.

I'm sure there are lots of stories like that out here. I've got a couple of my own regrets. :?
