Hi all,
I purchased a Standard Stratocaster the other day. The hang tag listed it as a Standard HSS Stratocaster, rosewood fingerboard. Fender specs list that model as having "Satin Urethane Finish on Back of Neck, Gloss Finish on the Face of the Headstock". Mine has a gloss finish on the back of neck and black pickups with a black pick guard instead of the white accessorized pictured on the website

http://www.fender.com/guitars/stratocas ... ed-no-bag/

Where is the model number listed for Strats these days? I notice they've done away with most of the serial number identifications on the Mexican Strats now. It almost looks like a Modern Player but only has 21 frets and standard tone controls so it is a Standard. Are there that many variations being made? This is a 2013 model purchased new from GC.

Thanks. I thought so too.

Any Mexican Standard experts here? Something just does not quite feel right about calling this one an HSS Standard. I'm thinking either the neck got swapped at the factory or the body. Either way it's a great guitar. Just curious here if I got an odd build.

Damn that's a pretty guitar. I need to see a photo of the back of the neck and the headstock to be able to tell. Have you measured the neck yet? Did I mention that's a sweet looking guitar?

What would I measure?

Kinda difficult with the lighting here tonight but here are a couple shots. The back of the neck is the same gloss as the front of the headstock.

It's definitely not a modern player because of the mexi serial #. As far as the specific model of your strat, I am puzzled. Current mexi standards use the black logo which is different than yours. I searched multiple sites/stores to find your guitar and the only model I saw in your exact color scheme and headstock logo was the road worn players strat. The body on yours looks pristine so unless there are marks I cant see, I don't think it could be a road worn series.

Interesting. I didn't realize the logo color was different. So maybe a different neck was put on in the factory? The guitar was purchased new at Guitar Center. Its in pristine condition. The neck is very nice as well. Seems a little chunkier than normal. Very high workmanship. Smooth fret edges, flawless really. Its a mystery.

Also, it looks and feels like an ash body. Hard to see from my photos but in person the grain looks just like a Deluxe Players Strat Fender has listed online.

See here...
http://www.fender.com/guitars/stratocas ... -sunburst/

Another idea is it could be a FSR for Guitar Center. I saw one there that had the same headstock logo. I'm just not sure.

Does anybody know how I measure the neck radius?

I think it's a FSR Standard HSS for Guitar Center miss tagged as a Standard HSS. It's got the same "with synchronized tremolo" on the headstock like the FSR black one I was looking at as well. Here's a pic of them both the day I purchased the CAR. Not the most in-focused pic but you can see the similarities. I think this mystery is solved.

This whole question and answer session not only speaks tomes about the way GC throw stuff up on their walls but about all the themes and variations which come flowing out of the factory. Fat chance that Fender would ever make life easy with a catalog of current FSR's and who they were built for.

Some Guitar Center Goober just tag in wrong! Factory Special Runs are hard to track unless they are very limited and discussed about because of limitations making them sought after.

Yah....and after a weekend of headbanger abuse you can't separate the wheat from the chaff.
