What ever happened to just walking a few feet to your amp and changing the tone feom there, and/or changing he pickup selector and tone control on the guitar.

Such a gimmick, same bucket as the Gibson robot LP. Fender make great guitars when they dont deviate too much from the old reliable 60 year old design, but not a huge amount of innovation that will add to the instrument and stand the teat of time,

Concerning the LP Robot your thinking about the Fender Fishmen Triple Play that was written about in Ultimate Guitars release that included the Deluxe Strat Plus information.

nope, im not thinking of the fender fishmen. I mean its similar to the robot, in so much that its a gimick that doesnt add a whole lot. a very lame Idea that R&D threw out quickly just to have something new and different.

I agree it's a gimmick, I would not buy one!

They only change the wiring. It isn't the sort of thing you would swap out live. You just don't need a soldering iron to change it. I have my guitar setup with a push pull to let me include the bridge pickup whenever I want. I wouldn't want to change that and I'd have been happier if I could have wired it without learning to solder.

My point exactly.... In a live situation it is a NO GO...
In a studio situation, Fine... But that means a very small percentage of buyer's since we all ( for the most part ) want the simplest adjustments when playing...
Exchanging a card will still mean unplugging, opening a receptacle and removing and reinserting a new card..... Now if this Mod was accessible thru a footswitch than that would be a different story....
But to have to remove the guitar, flip it, open a port and exchange components will turn off a large percentage of the player's.....
These ( apparently at first, before launch ) small adjustments have market exposure and they are never received to the best of marketing's expectations....

Pick up a Stratocaster, plug in, tune up and play... That is the norm, Fender itself is responsible for promoting that appeal of the simple mouse trap.....
Complicating a simple user friendly design, goes against Leo's original intentions....

My point is that what these cards actually modify isn't something you'd change often. Not on stage and not in a studio. What on earth would you control with a footswitch? They're passive.

^^... Really :?: :?

So than why have the option to exchange cards.. :?:
As far as a passive or active circuit, that is irrelevant, for all intents and purposes the signal traveling thru the cord is active.... Not sure why you are further clouding the discussion...

It is about wether or not the card's would be interchangeable with a minimum of fuss...
But past experiments have proven that is rarely if ever the case..
Being argumentative doesn't change the fact that there will be interruption, perhaps short spanned, but nevertheless an interuption.
Sort of the same scenario as with the 80's / 90's Synth brigades and attempts at quick card exchange reprograms....

Just keep playing.....!!! that is usually the demand from the audience...
Or for that matter the competent player / musician ....

There are people that like to modify guitars, and those that are curious as to what each type of mod would sound like. This seems like it would be a great idea to be able to easily switch between mods without the trouble of taking the guitar apart many times. If you do play live, between sets would surely be enough time to swap cards. Of course, in order to be a success, these guitars will have to feel good, look good, sound like a Strat, and be reasonably priced.

Get a Music-Man Game Changer, hope Fender makes one like that with all those pickups combinations and switching capabilities.♫

Does anyone know if any information is available on the technical details about the personality cards and solder-less system? Such as what are the actual wiring schemes that each card implements? And would it be possible to use the cards with non-standard pickups, such as a Kinman set? And what are the specs of the other equipment in the guitar, such as the volume- and tone-pots?

I tried looking for this on the Fender website, but didn't find anything... Would be nice if someone had some information, before either dismissing to buy one of these or actually getting one.

As much as I love custom wired guitars, this whole idea is a turn off to me. Seems like Fender should have done a poll on the Forum before putting money into production of these guitars. There is a company that has had pop-in and out pickguards out for several years now, which is kind of this same idea, but better as you actually change pickups as well. The guards are cut in such a way you can just pop them out with a push of a button or a small lever (can't remember). You can gave all your favorite pickup setups in these partial pickguards. I looked it over in a music store that had a complete display of guitar and 5 or 6 prewired pickguards. I just thought--- gimmic. I would rather have 5 or 6 different guitars personally. It is not practical to change guards or in the case of this discussion, a card, at a gig, as pointed out already. Studio time is too valuable to have to do the same thing. Gimmic......plain and simple.....
