I'm fortunate to have a good friend who's been building speaker cabs and generally messing with amps and guitars since the early 70's.

His latest project was building an enclosure around a MicroCube Amp and replacing the P.O.S. stock speaker. He demonstrated his and offered to build me one and I jumped on that bandwagon.

End result is a go anywhere 8 lb, 2 Watt SS Amp. Battery or AC power, Headphone Jack, Ext. Speaker Jack and ipod Input (3.5mm or 1/4"). Jensen Vintage 8" Speaker sounds great in a cool retro Rauland Speaker Cabinet from the 50's.

I enjoy it playing through the speaker in a small room for practice or through headphones in silent mode regardless of the time. It's quiet enough for an acoustic jam.

That is just too cool!

Love that '30s art-deco vibe.

That's not Art Deco vibe, it's Modernism. There are no embellishments, and no shouting "bigger, taller" or "because we can!".
Example of Art Deco speaker:

Did he have a lacquered maple/hickory plywood paddle hanging on the wall next to a list of phone numbers for every problem-child's parents?

Your making me shudder. I spent nine years in a Catholic school with nuns. I remember the pricipal (a nun) cold cocking the kid next to me as we stood in line up because he made a wise $@! remark.
Nice amp, be it Art Deco or Modenism, it looks cool.

Yea... they saw Corporal Punishment as an invaluable Educational Tool (not sure I entirely disagree...). Back then, if you didn't like it, they always informed parents of their alternative of sending your kids to a Public School...

But the last thing you did was run home and tell your parents you got slapped with a Ruler or such as they'd side with the Teacher saying you must have done something to deserve it, which often resulted in additional punishment...

While there's little doubt these methods achieved results, one wonders if perhaps there wasn't another way...

cheers!

Obligatory "I bet it would be a lot of fun playing my strat through those amps!"
I'm 40 and went to public schools - with 2 young girls I looked up the dropout statistics - in some states (SC, LS) it's approaching 40%.

My father went to parochial schools - nearly 100 kids per classroom with 1 semi-educated nun busting their balls - no dropouts, nearly all went to college. Cost per student was low, teacher (witchy nun) didn't have a thousand requirements....just sayin'....facts are facts.

Back on topic - Great amps. Bet you could get some interesting tones out of them.
