So I have a Stratocaster American Special HSS. The neck and middle pickups are perfect, but the bridge (humbucker) sounds weak and can't hold a note longer than 1 second.

I thought it might be an issue with the pickup itself, so I replaced it with another. Nope. It's still weak as ever. Then I started thinking maybe it's a problem with one of the pots. But if that were the case, then the other pickups would be affected too, right?

How about the height of the pup? Can you adjust it closer to the strings?

Yes I've tried adjusting it, and it doesn't make much difference.

Something went wrong with the wires. Remove the pickguard and check if they're soldered properly.

You could be right. Seeing as I didn't strip the wires properly (I used scissors), I think some of the tiny wires got cut off. I bought some wire strippers on amazon and I'll see how that goes.

So I re-cut the wires and re-soldered them, and it's still messed up. I even tried switching the positions around on the 5-way switch, and it only seems to affect my humbucker no matter where I put it. And like I said, it isn't a problem with this particular model humbucker, because even the previous one I had in here didn't work.

Maybe I should switch from a 250k volume pot to a 500k+?
