We recently purchased for our son a used Fender Stratocaster from a retail shop in our small town. They knew it was Mexican-made but could not tell us the model name with accuracy (hesitant if it was a Fat Strat, a Lone Star or maybe a Highway 1 – and it might be neither of those of course). I did a bit of research and it looks like it was manufactured in Mexico, in the Ensenada plant in 1992-1993. Is it possible to identify the model from the serial number (MN2 050703)? Or from the pictures?

Thank you so much for any help you can provide! He's hoping the deal was not a really bad one..

S/n looks odd to me and the truss rod plug looks like walnut . You can send the s/n to customer service and the should be able to give you all the info.

Perusing the 2002 Frontline catalog, the guitar seems to resemble the Standard Fat Strat shown on page 84 but the walnut truss-rod plug is inconsistent for that particular model.

Nonetheless, it looks like a nice instrument.

The pick guard screw placement looks like that from a Squier. :? The pick guard and maybe even the assembly could have been changed though.

This was the same time period when there was a problem with one of Fenders factories, wasn't it? Those early to mid '90s "MIM" Strats are some fine guitars.

+1

It might also be one of the numerous FSR Strats that Fender has produced over the years for various dealers.

Fender Customer Support did a search for me and could not come up with a definite. It is a 92-93 model and their records only date back to 1993. Since they could not locate that particular number, it is likely a 92.

From the pictures, they figure it's a Standard HSS Stratocaster... From what I can tell of current pricing for the new models, we might have slightly overpaid for this one.. But my son loves it and says he doesn't care what Fender says, he's calling it his "Lonestar" :)

Thanks everyone for your input. You can't win every time I guess.

It's a beautiful Strat and your son loves it.

I'd score that as a win/win any day.
