I accidentally posted this in the Lounge yesterday, I meant to put it here... sorry.

I had a Hot Rails in the bridge of my Surf Green Highway One for a few months now, but I really missed the single coil sound, so I switched the Custom 69 back in and gave it a little bit of a polish, since the forearm contour was getting shiny anyway. The guitar had some orange peel in the lacquer and I didn't want to risk going through the lacquer, so I just gave it a little shine. I used Turtle Wax Polishing Compound, anyone have any ideas for a polish that'll give me a little more shine and decrease my chances of going through the lacquer, in the Lounge Meguiars was suggested, in another guitar forum, they rave about Virtuoso Polish, does anyone have any experience with that? ... here's some pics.

I could be wrong but looks like you might need some type of coumpound to cut the finish down a tad to loose the orange peel.

Fine looking strat btw!

Thanks...yeah, it had orange peel when I got it. I'm debating not going any further with the polishing because I'm afraid if I try to smooth the orange peel I'll go right through the lacquer.

A lot of people here, including me, would tell you Dunlop 65 is a pretty standard and safe way to go. Like most guitar polishes, it contains a very mild abrasive which would do your orange peel some benefit, perhaps.

But it so happens I was just reading Dan Erlewine on cleaning guitars, and he's saying Martin's polish product is maybe the best for thin nitro finishes, which is what you have there, I believe. It is formulated to be gentle on high end instruments that may have vulnerable lacquer surfaces, so it can't be bad for your HW1.

Dan's also talking about the hazards of overdoing cleaning products generally, based on the possibility of substances penetrating right through the finish to the wood beneath and doing it no good, over time. So he's big on the traditional dry cloth, heavy breathe and plenty of elbow-grease as the ultimate cleaning agent.

Go to it!
