If you have a non-lacquered neck and want to make it a few shades darker, you can do what I did to all three of Fenders (two Strats and a Squier Tele). Give them a solid coating of shoe polish, let them sit a few minutes, and then take it off. All three were initially that bright white. Afterwards, they were noticeably much more yellow and MUCH more pleasing to the eye.

I appreciate the tip, but I think I'll just wait for nature to run its course. Something about rubbing shoe polish on my baby doesn't appeal to me...

But if the neck starts looking blue to you, better go see a doctor.

Also need to see the doctor if you have an erection lasting longer than 4 hours. :D

If that happened, I'm not sure I'd want to see my doctor. Maybe his nurse though. 8)

I got brand new, a Japanese 1968 reissue , 3TSB , maple fretboard , large headstock but with the modern Fender transitional part of the logo, but the small straight Stratocaster part
The tinting on it looked really fake and was sprayed all over the frets , it was that bad it flaked off in chunks as you played , also the Stratocaster part of the logo was kinked slightly under the finish and looked awful
I decided to scrape the laquer off the frets very carefully by using a stanley knife where the frets touched the board and then scraping the excess off the frets with an old credit card

All went well up to the 13th fret , I was working with the guitar on our kitchen table on top of towels with the strings tied up and hanging out of the way ...........we had a knock on the front door and Suzy our dog went charging past me , but caught her back on the hanging strings and dragged the guitar sideways , I managed to put a nice deep scratch right diagonally across the 13th fret
I ended up taking it to a luthier who said he could sand it out , refret the neck and refinish it but the headstock would be a completeley different shade , as he couldn't get the tint right (it was really dark), so I asked if he would take the logo off and replace it which he did with a matching period correct one ...the neck now looked fine
After about a month, I noticed cracks appearing in the finish, all over the neck, so I took it back and asked him what laquer he'd used .turns out he'd used 2 pack instead of the nitro used on these reissues and the finish had reacted with the faint remains in the grain of the nitro and started cracking , so he refretted the neck yet again and refinished it in nitrocellulose this time but had to use a CBS logo , that would have come out in 1969 with the bold curved Stratocaster

I know some purists will say it's now not legit, but guess what .I don't care, because he had to sand off the "made in Japan " and serial number, I had it engraved on the neckplate . It will never be sold it will pass on to my descendants when I kick the bucket and after 20 years, the nitro has actually aged naturally to a nice really natural tint with natural checking

Nice - how does the fretboard feel?
