My 2010 MIM Strat has a rich yellow on maple on the headstock and on the neck behind the rosewood, which I love.

When I bought my 2012 American Standard with a maple neck, one of the features listed was a "tinted" neck. But the neck itself was very white and not the lustrous yellow like on my MIM. I was a little disappointed on the color, but everything else about it was good so I didn't worry.

Just today, I glanced over at my 2012 and the neck looked more yellow than it was originally. I took it outside to look at it in the light to make sure that my eyes weren't playing tricks on me (they do that kind of $#!+ as you get older), and I'm pretty sure it's getting a little yellow, which I'm all for. Really looks good with the three-color sunburst.

So my question is, does the tint in the "tinted" necks take a little while to kick in?

Lacquers begin to age relatively quickly while urethanes and other synthetics take much longer. Is your neck's finish lacquer?

Nah, I'm pretty sure it's satin urethane so that's probably why...

But if the neck starts looking blue to you, better go see a doctor.

I've found poly necks do get darker with age, especially if it's not kept in a case permanently. I've got two '97 Voodoo Strats, a black one I've had since early '98 and it's spent a lot of time out of its case, and an Olympic White one I bought recently off Ebay, which I believe has been kept in its case for ages. They very close to the same age, and the Olympic White one is noticeably lighter in tint.

These days yes, not so years ago when smoky clubs were the norm.

+1

The Poly neck on my '99 MIM 'Nashville' Tele has 'ambered' up quite nicely whereas my 2012 Telebration Empress Tele is still very 'clear'.

cheers!

Also need to see the doctor if you have an erection lasting longer than 4 hours. :D

The laquer on my vhr 57 is darker than I've seen on a guitar in a long time. I actually think it gives it a more vintage feel.

The neck on my FSR Am. Vtg. Ltd. Ed '57 is tinted nitro.

It'll be interesting to see how much darker it becomes w/ age.

cheers!

The maple neck on my 2012 MIM was noticeably "whiter" new than it is now, more beige than anything.
The maple neck on my 2010 MIM is MUCH yellower now than it was when it was new.

If you have a non-lacquered neck and want to make it a few shades darker, you can do what I did to all three of Fenders (two Strats and a Squier Tele). Give them a solid coating of shoe polish, let them sit a few minutes, and then take it off. All three were initially that bright white. Afterwards, they were noticeably much more yellow and MUCH more pleasing to the eye.
