Why in gods name did they not produce that guitar. It looks fantastic. I'm not a FR guy but I would give that one a shot.

+1

Very cool. It seems like a hot rodded '66 Strat (the large headstock, transition logo, Kluson-like tuners).

A prototype to hang onto!

I like it! I'm not a big fan of those tuners, but the HSS, Gotoh bridge, locking nut and black on charcoal color are all attractive!
I'm not sure about the chrome knobs, though - they look strange on a strat.

Hi all,
nothing too nefarious!!! ;O)

Somebody obviously forgot to remove the tag before it went wherever it went.
As pointed out, this is likely between 2001 and 2005, and it looks like they gave the flat black a try-out. The letters on the tag belong to the name of an upstanding Fender citizen who is, (and has been for quite some time) in our Artist Relations Dept, and likely had it out for evaluation purposes at some point.
At any rate, I believe the model spec below is what it is.
All the best,
rob

I think they should do that again, cause it's certainly not bad looking!

Thanks Rob, mystery solved!

Now we have closure and can go back to discussing the relative merits of maple vs. rosewood.

I wonder who it was out to for evaluation and how it got to be in the sellers hands?

The service info document for this guitar is on the site and can be downloaded as a pdf.
It is apparently revision C dated 17 July 2001.
The file name is 113-3100Cupg1_SISD.pdf

my pleasure buddyhawke.

Guys, there is a decent chance that i could probably go back into some internal files and get the whole story and know exactly what transpired, where it changed hands going back to that time period. But really......aside from satisfying my own slight curiosity, I wouldn't release any names or internal info anyway. Its just not an ethical thing to do.

Suffice to say that since the beginning.....Bill Carson being the shining example, artists have tried out our protos and given us feedback on them. Some were given to the artists afterwards, some were sent back to Fender and sold to employees, others stripped for parts etc. etc. Obviously, we prefer that they don't get sold and that they stay "in the family", but once in awhile they do get out there into the wild and like in this case, someone gets a lucky find. Good for Buddyhawke!
I like the knurled knobs btw :O)

Cheers,
rob

Deluxe Strat HSS with Locking Trem- I thought it was familiar, that was a great model. I just didn't like the limited number of colours it came in.

Interesting to see that it replaced the Pro Tone Strat in 1998- was that a squire? if so that was a nice guitar too..

found some nice pics here:

No selling allowed on the forum. You should have read the rules when you joined, before posting.

If the guitar without this specification, would you have sold?

Congratulations buddyhawke, lucky find.
