Hi! I'm new to the forum. I won a 1997 Stratocaster when I was in seventh grade. It's been sitting in a basement for the last 15 years and I was hoping you all could help me find the specs based on the serial number: AMXN7 16615. When I won it, I remember being told the serial number was fairly unique. I'm mainly looking for any important spec information and potential value. Any insight would be really helpful!!

Those odd serial numbers belonged to the "California Series" that was made in 1997-98. Basically these were worked on by both the USA factory in Corona, CA and their plant in Ensenada Mexico. The bodies and necks were cut in the USA factory, shipped to the Mexican plant for finishing, then shipped back to the USA for assembly. The hardware was mixed between those used on USA models and MIM models.

I think there were two Strat models - one with 3 single coils and one with 2 single coils and a bridge humbucker. These were designed to fall in-between the American Standard model of the late 1990s and the MIM models.

I would send the serial number to Fender - email them at consumerrelations@fender.com and they will give you more details on it.

True. Fender did a California Fat Strat with an HSS configuration which was a gap between the US Lonestar and the MIM Standard HSS. This guitar was equipped with two Tex-Mex singles in the neck & middle and a Tex-Mex humbucker in the bridge.
