Just going back to the original post, how exactly did you measure the neck relief? Capo at the first fret, hold down at the last fret and a .0012 inch feeler gauge should just slip under the 7th fret. If it's tight then slacken the truss rod an eighth of a turn to allow more curvature. When that's right then set the string heights at the bridge saddles.

Apologies if I'm stating the obvious here, I'm just puzzled as to why a well setup Strat still rattles.

Feeler gauge under the fret wich have the more space , this is the middle where the truss rod had much effects , usualy 7 , 8 or 9 th frets.

Be careful with feeler gauge , sometimes it push the string giving wrong reading , better to have good eyes . I use Stew Mac straight edge this do not lie .

Checking with a 6" steel ruler and holding to the light I can see that 12 and 15 are indeed a little higher.

You are better to see a qualified luthier , your guitar may need a fret dress , not expensive .

+1. Problem identified: solution identified.

Finding a good, well recommended luthier is the next step.

Good luck - C

Thanks to all of you for the suggestions. Since I posted this I decided to trade it in for a Gretsch Pro Jet. I am now the happiest person in the world with my new guitar. It has good tone and the action couldn't be better.

I did find out that the luthier I was using at a local music shop either doesn't know what he is doing or he is too lazy to investigate the problem. He simply tried to cover up the problem with the varioius adjustments.

Thanks again but now its somebody else's problem.
