I read from someone (see link below) who installed an LSR roller nut that if you have a neck with a standard nut don't attempt to install a roller nut yourself: have a luthier do it. He also said that the nut slot had to be widened towards the 1st fret a little bit. Any feedback on installation?
I have a 2008 American Standard neck and hard to keep in tune.

Yes. This is true. I did this myself with limited success. You need precision removal of material at the nut towards the first fret. If you aren't confident about doing it yourself, have a professional do it instead. Words to live by...

Interesting!! I don't recall any posts regarding tuning stability on the new AmStd. Perhaps you should have a competent tech check it out.

Years back it was common to drop a Tremsetter in the Strat Plus's which had the roller nut.

Ah, now that's interesting too. I've never used a Trem-Setter - because I've never had a problem I felt needed addressing with one. But I've looked at them sometimes, and I'd be curious to hear if anyone has experience of them.

A miracle device? Helped a bit? Not worth the trouble?

Just curious...

I just read about the LSR roller nut and the best I can understand that 11's will work. Has anyone tried 11's on the LSR roller nut ? 8)

I have 11-50 DR's on my Strat Pro. No problems.

why would the nut slot be widend towards the 1st fret? Why not the other way? Is the top of the nut set back into the nut?

Hi, If I were you ... I wouldn't install the roller nut... I would instead learn how to set up that american standard guitar.. there should not be any problems with tunning when you have the guitar setup really well... :)

It has to do with the scale length and the difference in points of contact between the original nut and the LSR roller nut. This is only required if doing a *new* installation (guitars without a previous LSR or Wilkinson roller nut).

As you can see, this widening requires routing 0.094" towards (or into) the first fret. So, one should be very certain of doing this modification.

I was wondering why and now i see. As i suspected the breakpoint is set in from the base width of the nut.
