Thanks for seeing my point.

No, I neither see nor support your point. No one here had even hinted at quality differences between USA and Mexico made instruments being due to the nationality of the workers. Before you brought it up.

Where did you even get that xenophobic idea from?

For what it's worth, I think the quality differences are due to factors like price pressure, workers' conditions and attrition.
Being a socialist, I call what Fender and others do by paying lower wages and offering worse work conditions in other countries imperialism and exploitation. Yes, the cost of living is lower, but that's not for others to exploit for their own profit. Pay workers the same decent wages no matter where they live, and the standard of living will go up everywhere too. And so will the quality of work, and the purchasing power of the workers.

All due respect arth1, you're making assumptions and stating them as facts I do believe.
You are welcome to assume and have an opinion of course.

I'm not saying that Fender is worse than others. In many ways Fender is nicer than other companies. But that's not good enough. The latest figures I could find were 15 years old, where Fender then paid Ensenada workers between $41 and $88 per week. If this has changed to where Fender now pays Ensenada workers the same as it pays Corona workers, you have my apologies.
If not, it is exploiting a lower GDP in foreign countries, keeping wages to what workers are willing to accept, not what they are worth (proven by them being paid that much elsewhere).

You want some vodka with that cheese, comrade?

Why don't you just boycott Fender and buy only Lenin-approved products from the Gorky Park Guitar Factory?

Hi arth1,
I just think making assumptions and generalizations leads folks to conclusions that are probably not correct.
I'm simply saying that I've been to the Ensenada plant a few times, I work with the people there on a regular basis. The plant is pretty pristine and a pretty nice environment in my experience. I worked at CBS Fullerton plant and it was a slum compared to our Ensenada plant. That's just my opinion based on my own experience.

This is not really a forum to discuss these topics, so i will just say that personally......if I moved back to California, they would have to pay me more than they do here,in able for me to live the same way. It's apples and oranges from here to California....and it's apples and oranges again from Southern Calif to Silicone Valley.

And they DO pay me what I'm willing to accept...I'd still love to earn a whole lot more. :O)

Cheers and onto other topics!,
rob

Don't take it the wrong way, Rob - Fender is a good shop, and does much better than most. Which makes me feel better about buying Fender than many other products. There are some I'm actively boycotting because of how they treat factory workers. Especially in China, but even home in the US, some companies just don't care about anything except profits. Fender isn't one of them, although I hope Fender too will continue to improve.

I'm still an old hippie and want a moneyless society where everybody can sit around playing Kum-ba-yah after work, and not be treated as worth less depending on where they were born. :D

"...Very nice. And how'd you get that, eh? By exploiting the workers. By hanging on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society. If there's ever going to be any progress..."

"Dennis! There's some lovely filth down here."

Sorry, and with ultimate respet to Michael Palin...things were getting serious here...had to put an end to it.

Cheers.
