Greetings everyone. I have a Fender Blacktop Strat HH and the one of the output jack ferrule screws does not tighten--it just spins when I try to tighten it. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks for the help!

Get a sliver of wood, a section of toothpick will do. Dip it in PVA glue (the white stuff for wood). Place in screw hole. Allow to dry. Your screw will now grip the wood, just like new.

Goodonya ...Mark.

Like previous poster said, slivers of toothpick or matchstick wood glued into the hole will give the screw something to grip. Good fix for loose strap button screws too.

Matchstick (+ optional glue) is the "traditional" way.
Another way (shall we call this the modern way..?) is to use rapid epoxy: 1. apply it in the hole with a toothpick & 2. wait for 5 mins, if it's still loose do 1&2 again.

I would never use epoxy for this job ,too hard . Not easy to clean as wood glue ......

Wood glue ( carpenter glue ) with tootstick will do the best job .

I respect your choice as always, stratele52, but what is there to clean, the toothpick for later use?

But seriously, folks: nowadays I do all my screwloose fixes with epoxy. It's especially handy when the hole is really worn; with epoxy you can build up a resin layer, which strenghtens the wood and thus holds up very well. The matchstick fix usually has to be redone the next time you take that screw off.

So it's just another option to consider...

I just stuff a bit of cotton from a q-tip in there. Then put the screw in that. I don't bother with glue. You'll have to redo it every time, however. Beats cleaning glue off the guitar.
