Hi everyone

I'm wanting to pick up a new Strat soon and was looking on GC website at some very inexpensive guitars.

The price is tempting but I can't help but wonder, do these cheaper Strats play as cheap as they cost?

If you go on GC website and look at New Electric Guitars, priced Low/High, they are barely over $100.

I'm not a professional but I do know a good guitar when I play one and have a good musical ear to hear the better sounding ones.

I'm unable to pay $500+ (or less even) for a guitar atm, so I'm wondering, are these inexpensive Strats able to satisfy my need?

I'm actually a LP man but I have a Strat copy (junk) and need a Strat for my more country side hehe

Thoughts? Opinions? Input?
thanx

It depends on the guitar itself. You'd be likely to get some more feedback on the Squier guitar forum, but I've tried Vintage Modified and Deluxe Squiers and they seem to play quite nicely. They're probably even nicer once you put on some new strings and set them up. I've also tried a Fender Modern Player Stratocaster HSS (the cheapest "Fender" branded Strat that you can buy new) and it was ok. Nothing phenomenal, but seems like a serviceable guitar to me. Granted that these are comparatively higher-end Squiers (and priced accordingly), I'd try and stretch your budget a little further and get something a little nicer.

Well, that figures. Got the wrong forum? lol

I just saw this one http://www.guitarcenter.com/Squier-Blac ... 1147427.gc

Really like the look. Just watched a YT vid on the one with the Humbucker in it.
At first, I was like naw... it aint got the Single in it, it aint a Strat.
However, I liked the sound with the Humbucker better.

I played the Ritchie Sambora model a few times many years ago.

Well, guess I'll try to find the Squier forum and ask over there.

thanx

Speaking of nice looking Squiers; have you seen the Standard FMT Strat?

Wow!
That's a really nice one.

Personally, I like a wider neck vs' a slimmer one, but it's not a deal breaker.

The black transparent is really nice.

Thanx for the heads up on this one. It's a contender.

You're actually not on the wrong forum, a lot of the guys here have Squiers, and from what I've read so far, there's a lot of love here for the classic vibe series.
Let us know what you've decided on, and pics are always welcome.

Squier Classic Vibe are great for the price . I do some test with some of my American Standard guitars.

Indeed!

Indexing that cost to account for fifty years of currency devaluation, they're not much more money than the typical Teisco or Silvertone of the era would cost.

Get yourself a Yamaha Pacifica PAC112J. $200.00 new. Best guitar for the money. You will not have to change the pickups. Then save your money and get a MIM Standard Stratocaster.

Hi otis

I'm not really needing to "save" my money, just tryin to make it stretch.

I have several items that I need and only about $800 to work with atm.

I need items for sound production, a LP type guitar, a Strat type guitar (or Ibanez RG) a Bass Guitar and a keyboard. Probably actually gonna have to buy used for most of it.

So, that's where I'm coming from.
Interesting your nomination. I'll watch the vids asap.

Be aware that Squier's have a thinner body than MIM or MIA Strat's… Which can be problematic if you are upgrading components……. Also the necks are narrower and thinner so if you have small hands OK… But if you'll be switching continuously between a Gibson / Epiphone Les Paul Neck and a Squier, you may want to re-consider… Also at $100-$150 for a guitar, it will be necessary to upgrade the pups and electronic hardware.

Personally you should be able to find a decent MIM Strat for well under $300.00….. Which is about what you will eventually spend in upgrading and setting up a low budget Squier to be a reliable player in live situations but YMMV…..
Sometimes the cheap route becomes the more expensive route… :?

BTW… The Classic Vibes are nice but difficult to find for the price you seek….

Ok

Watched the vids.

I do like the sharper corners on the Pacifica over the Strat.
The guy in the first vid is a better guitar player than I.

The Strat I have I can get a decent sound out of. It's it's playability that I'm struggling with. Especially the higher up the neck I go.

I've done all I can to it as far as intonating and setting it up as best as I could.
It would need to be looked at by a pro. That will cost what? $100? to setup?
So, I was thinkin, leave it, and get a new one with getting a pro setup at purchase.

My Schecter I'm going to run in B tuning. That's where it was when I bought it. Sounded good. The Strat copy I have, run half step down, as well as the LP I'm gonna get.

I have a post regarding my current sound situation, which, I may end up leaving for now.

Is this true of the Standards and above? I though that to be case for the Affinity's and Bullets.
