Hi fellas,

I'm having trouble identifying this strat and that little knot of doubt is starting to creep in.

From what I've got so far the headstock serial gives me made in the US in 2005. I can't seem to find any models with the 6 point trem. I'll leave it to the experts. Sent an email to Fender with the serial and just waiting for a response.

Some pics from the seller. Thanks for looking.

An amalgamation of parts.

Some of them *might* even be Fender.

A made in USA neck with no skunk stripe? A sunburst body in solid black on the reverse? That font and placement of the serial number?

I smell Warmoth.

The trem cover plate is a bit suspect with symmetrical screw holes. I would also expect to see a walnut plug in the truss rod hole.
Can you remove the neck and pickguard see if there are any identifying stamps, bar code stickers etc.

And Fender haven't used that 6 hole trem cover in a long time.

Ah yes, the 6-point trem, the saddles and the truss rod cavity ... what you have there is a fake. Never been within a mile of the Fender factory. Sorry but you have been conned.

EDIT: or you haven't been conned, assuming you're not going to buy this thing.

Wide spacing of the dots at the 12th fret is another giveaway. Not Fender.

Dammit. I had that feeling guys.

Never owned an American strat and didn't know what to look for. Hopefully Paypal can help a brother out. Getting tired of the eBay cons.

Thanks a bunch.

Good luck with that. I'm sure Fender sales and support would assist you if you need to make a claim against the seller.

Chalk up another fail for ebay.

Even the string trees look wrong.

EDIT: This thread has made me really angry. People work and save for a long time to buy a Fender guitar and some cynical bastard on ebay sticks decals on a Chinese fake and sells it to an unsuspecting buyer. Whoever sold this guitar knew exactly what he was doing, the thing's got no sign of wear so it's nearly brand new. He can't claim ignorance. The guy should be prosecuted for fraud over this.

If you paid via Paypal, they offer certain buyer protections.

This guitar is quite plainly a fraud -- sold either unwittingly or deliberately. That should be grounds enough for Paypal to intervene on your behalf.

The Seller has issued a full refund. Paypal are reviewing it at the moment. He claimed the guitar was a gift and didn't know any better. Whatever.

Anyway I'm not even angry. Just disappointed in myself. I'm old enough to know better.

What I'm grateful about is the quick and honest answers you guys gave me. :D

Travelling to the US later this year and I'll just pick a real one up instore. Then I'll come back here and bombard you guys with pics.

YES! RESULT! BACK OF THE NET!

First post on the forum to a full refund in an hour and eleven minutes, is this a record?

Don't forget Customs will charge you sales tax and import duty if you bring a Strat back with you from the US.
