Perhaps you all are right... it still feels SUPER lightweight compared to other strats ive held before so i'll guess its still in the lower weight range. Does the weight affect the quality of the guitar in any way?

Most Strat experts agree that the optimal weight range is between 7 and 8 pounds on Strats. The fact that most Custom Shop and Masterbuilt Strats are usually between 7 and 7.5 pounds tells us something.

Wildwood guitars has all of their inventory pieces spec'd including weight. A great place to see a wide range of CS and MB guitars.

Personally if I came across a Stratocaster that light, my first concern would be about it being a genuine Fender product, and I would be hesitant to pay Fender prices until I could authenticate it and possibly x-ray it to make sure the body wasn't a Swiss cheese laminate.

Few scales are calibrated to read accurately below 10 lbs unless they're designed for determining postal rates, medical marijuana prescriptions, and the like.

Yeah...this is especially true for scales that normally are used in the bathroom for weighing people. I've always done the weigh-myself-with-and-without-the-guitar-then-subtract process. The diference is usually accurate.

Left out one source...the USAF PMEL (Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory). I have a fellow retiree friend that worked in PMEL for 25+ years and he calibrated the scale used to weigh my Strats. Here are the numbers for my guitars:

60's Classic Series MIM: 7.5lbs
EC Strat: 7.25lbs (forgot about that one weighing that much)
50th Anniversary Gold Strat: 6.4lbs
62 Reissue MIJ Domestic: 6.2lbs
'82 '57 Vintage Reissue: 6.1lbs

I was just lucky I guess getting relatively light ones according to what others are stating their Strats weigh but each one has an Alder body. Maybe without thinking about it, that is why I chose each one. I have never really cared about the weight as long as it sounded good. We only weighed em after a night of playing and BS'ing and him complaining about the weight of his 70's Strat (10lbs).

Same deal in the Army, Tony. All scales are calibrated at the TMDE (test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment) shop and are required to have a DA80 tag affixed to them indicating the date of the last calibration and the interval for this periodic service. Same protocol for all hospital equipment as well.

Most Strat bodies are between 3.8 and 4.2 lb's alone but they can be had lighter than that but usually at a premium cost. I've done chambered bodies as low as 3 lb's. then add weight of neck plus hardware.

I weigh all of my guitars with a hand held scale made to weigh luggage. It seems to be very accurate. My Strats weigh:
Am Dlx - 8# 8oz.
Clapton CS - 7# 10oz.

That jives with my observations as well -- I think your scale is pretty accurate, Drew.

Music Machine is a local shop that does a good amount of mail order business and they didn't mind throwing a guitar on their scale.

Well that weight seems more "Strat-like". Have fun with your new guitar and play it every chance you can!

A <6lb. (even <7lb.) Stratocaster is a real anomoly !

So much so that I'd be suspicious of anyone claiming to have one. If they make such a claim, like many others here, I'd question their method of weighing it.

My Telebration Empress Telecaster is 5lbs.4oz..

It is so light, it actually fools the brain. Everytime you pick it up, your arm is set to hoist what your brain says looks like a normal Tele, but it's so light that when you pick it up, you have to catch yourself before you accidentally raise it to the ceiling.

The lightest Stratocaster I've ever seen was just under 7lbs. and in no way did it have this same effect as my Empress.

cheers!
