I am hoping Someone can help me assertain the value of a used Strat I just purchased.
I called Fender with the serial number info, and the rep told me what I have is a 1998 production American Vintage 57' Strat. It came with a form fit Hard case and is in great condition. I have looked on Ebay but could not find it. this is the two tone sunburst color.
The Case as I said is a form fit black case that is straight on one side and curved to match the guitar on the other.

Thank you for your help with getting a value for this excellent guitar.

Likely around $1200, contingent upon condition and originality.

The form-fit case is not original to the instrument. AVRI's were shipped in the G&G rectangular hardshell repro type -- tweed for the '57, brown Nubtex for the '62.

Thanks for the reply, and the value it is in very good condition. I got it for $700 from an authorized dealer who told me it was a 2001 reissue of a 58. I think I will take the fender rep, though as being more reliable. However the fender rep did tell me that the case that is with it, was the original case and that they did include them for a little while with this reissue. I can't remember what the actual brand or name of it is though.

Send your guitar's serial number directly to Fender -- they'll be able to tell you all the particulars for the instrument, right down to the included accessories.

I called fender directly and have the rep the serial info. And I have registered the guitar on the website. Is there anything else I can do? Should I email them with a picture also?

Thanks again

Pictures are great but I don't think you need to send them any -- it sounds like you have all the bases covered at this point.

As an aside though, here's my interpretation of a '57 Strat......

That looks exactly like mine I am going to email them though just to make sure about the case. Just because it says fender on does not mean it is the original one. I can't complain though because the dealer thought it was a 2001 58 or 59 reissue I paid $700 for it and it looks great

I thought they stopped 57 Vintage Reissue Series in 94 or 95.

No, the '57 reissue was available until last year when they revamped the whole American Vintage line. In the mid '90s they fixed a bunch of minor inaccuracies (12th fret dot spacing, headstock shape, etc) but they didn't discontinue the AV'57 at that point.

+1

The AVRI guitars saw one of the longest continuous production runs of any line of Fender instruments. They're solid Strats, built to "old-school" Leo specs and they remain an excellent choice for musicians of all persuasions.

+1 !!

While not exact copies of the originals, IMHO, the AVRIs are a more faithful reinterpretation than any other re-issues from either Fender or Gibson.

And as Arjay points out, they're also just excellent quality instruments, maybe the best coming out of Corona aside from the Custom Shop !

In fact, my Gold Tech told me he's seen Custom Shop guitars which weren't as good.

cheers!

Everybody has been great on here, and I have enjoyed seeing all he responses. I have another question though and you may all think it's really dumb but I am a beginner and really want to enjoy my new instrument.
The pick up switch selector has four positions but only 3 pickups can somebody tell me what each of the positions is for? And second do the two tone knobs go for different pickups also?
As you can tell I am really new at this. I bought this guitar because it was American made and would hold its value. So I plan on keeping it for awhile.

Thanks again for all the great advice and comments

These guitars were typically issued with a traditional 3-way switch installed, with a 5-way version tucked in with the case candy. A 4-way switch is typically used to hotrod a Telecaster so it's a safe bet that someone has been inside your Strat at some point in its life. There's no telling what other mods have been effected but a standard Strat wiring configuration features a master volume control (top knob) and tone controls for the neck pickup (second knob) and middle pickup (third knob).
