Fitting a five-way to my new Malmsteen Strat today and noticed this from the bridge pickup:

Pickup seems to work OK but I wonder why this wire would just be sitting there.

Are you sure that it's not a hair? That or just a stray piece of pup wire that shouldn't be there.

No. Not a hair. It was coming out of the bobbin itself. I cut it back rather than have it hanging around the control cavity. As I said, pickup seems to work fine but it does concern me.

Fender specs write it is this pu ;

www.seymourduncan.com/products/electric ... _yjm_fury/

It is a 4 wire coils . IMO one coil is broken , If not why this wire ?

You write the pu seems to work fine . How can you be sure ? Sure it wil work with on wire broken but not as it suppose too. I never test drive this guitar myself .

If your guitar is on waranty ( you did not answer to me ) ask a replacement . IMO if you cut the wire , is it too late , waranty void ?

Measure the resistance of the pickup then find out what the resistance should be.

Me thinks someone broke the coil wire while turning :shock:

That's sure what it's looking like to me.

Thanks chaps. I have the specs now so will check to be sure. Won't have voided warranty (yes, guitar is new) by cutting back the stray wire. It's still there. Just not hanging out so far. I've photographic evidence if required.

Thanks again. Much appreciated.

Bring back to the store on waranty for a pickups replacement .

With what you know now ,do you say bridge pickup is working properly ?

Like dropping the pan to change out the fluid and filter in an automatic transmission and find a loose screw or a couple of gear cogs at the bottom.

:shock:
