Two years ago, the value of the two dollars was different than it is today...

According to Oanda.com, on December 25, 2006, the US dollar was worth 1.15x the Canadian dollar, which would mean the $720USD guitar would have been about $830CAD.

Then you figure in the "Canada tax," and $1100 doesn't seem like much of a stretch.

You probably overpayed, but not by two times the cost of the guitar.

You weren't ripped off. You just made an unexpectedly generous charitable contribution to the music retail business.

So what if the vendor cops the "all sales final" attitude? I'd expect they will. Then he should let them know he's going to call Fender customer support and tell them his story. I honestly don't think Fender would be happy to hear one of their vendors overcharged some parents buying their kid a Christmas present or worse, substituted a cheaper model then the one they paid for. If they can do anything about it, I don't know. It's at least worth the phone call.

To be sure, you're right. I just suspect it ain't going to get him anywhere.

ZZ the Doktor often has words of cold realism to impart on Fender's corporate attitude. I fear their loyalty will lie with a dealer who moves their product.

And that dealer is going to start talking about import tax, the harsh economic climate, etc etc. And some of that's real.

But the cold truth: I ain't never come across a vendor who's ready to negotiate over the price after the deal's gone down. Just the way the world is. Subject for a song, perhaps?
