If you can provide the SN # then I am sure one of us can tell you what it is.

Yep as already mentioned it is a Mexican made Strat, probably built sometime between 2006 - 2008 Fender's Mexican made crica chart only lists MZ5+ 5 digits 2005-2006 they sell for about $399.00 new US so if this conversion widget is correct, that is about 400.51 CAD

if this is so is it worth 1100 before tax?

Honestly... Nothing against a Mexi strat, they are great guitars, I own one myself. But 1100 CAD is about 1,098.57 USD and it wouldn't be worth that much in the States

ive seen the avg price to be 800, call that 880ish cdn, the cdn price of 1100 seems like a hefty markup. considering 800 was retail and not wholesale

If they did indeed charge you 3 times the value of your guitar, I'd go back and talk to the manager. Make sure you have a receipt of some sort. It doesn't matter how long it's been since you bought it. Tell him you believe you were way overcharged and that you're going to bring this up with Fender if you can't get it resolved with him. There's no way he's going to want Fender to know one of it's dealers is ripping off unsuspecting parents buying their kids first guitar.

Very nice guitars but price seems high.

I fear if confronted the vendor will start reciting "caveat emptor"...

You weren't ripped off. You just made an unexpectedly generous charitable contribution to the music retail business.
