That's a nice guitar. Keep it original, at least for a long time, till there's a really good reason to change it.

Or just buy a different guitar that has the features you feel you want.

Yeah, keep it original for a while, or just get what you really want. There's certainly nothing "wrong" with it that needs to be changed.

I'm curious, have you played this guitar?
What about it made you decide it was the one to get?
What about it makes you think you need to make changes already?

The reason I'm asking is that if you think you may need to make changes, then maybe it isn't the right guitar after all?

Are you really looking for a guitar you can have fun with and mod like crazy?

 dont change a thing on that awesome strat. you have a 2006 upgrade and 2007s the are the best and rumor has it that 2008 is the end of the road for this legend of a strat if this is true the 2006 and 2007s will be the ones that are going to be sought after. this strat does it all classic/modern tones and everything in between.this strat has been compared to the custom shop strats.

Couldn't put it better. I'm keen to hear the answers to those questions.

The OP makes it sound like this guitar hasn't been purchased yet. I am curious about what makes someone think about swapping out parts on a guitar they haven't even bought yet. Why?

If the modding is the object of the exercise, I'd have thought a MIM Strat, or even a body, neck and parts from one of the many suppliers of those was the way to go. Then the world is your oyster...

If I just wanted a nice project guitar to mod, I'd probably just get a custom made warmoth or something. They have a ton of different options for bodies, necks, headstocks, wood, finishes, and you can put whatever hardware you want on it.

If you don't LOVE the Highway One, don't even bother getting it. Get whatever it is you DO want, or just have warmoth make you the guitar of your dreams (and they'll do a decent job, for far less than Fender Custom Shop would).

Ideal advice. Warmoth do some fabulous options: the pleasurable problem is too much choice, not too little.

Or if that's too pricey (and though less than CS it still wouldn't be cheap), just go shopping for parts on Ebay. There's folks out there who buy new Fenders, break them down and sell the parts on Ebay. So you can mix and match and get just the guitar you want.

I'm trying to save that innocent Highway 1!

Much of the time the mod thing is hype - for some reason many players think you have to hot rod a guitar to get that special tone.

The parts companies love it because they are in business to sell parts.

I prefer the modifications in my tone start with my hands and then go to my gear.

I love my 2006 HSS Highway One as it is. It never crossed my mind to change anything.
