Hi folks ,
I have a 62 vintage reissue stratocaster and the pickups are noisy as hell . i shielded it a while ago as GuitarNuts.com described and it got better but still too much noisy for my taste . i recorded a sample to show what i mean :

https://soundcloud.com/user576835827/noise/s-NlLgc

the above is recorded without any kind of noise reduction. is it (the noise level) normal or something's wrong with my guitar ? now my question is will potting the pickups remedy this noise ? my pickups are not microphonic but they pick up some hear able frequencies from electric devices like computers and also the noise volume and characteristic change when you move the instrument for example when holding it vertical or horizontal or anything in between. but it does not related to the pickup position ( bridge , middle , neck ) . any thoughts , comments , help are highly appreciated . this is killing me ...

Best Regards
kaveh

Same answer as you other post;

Potting is needed only if PU is microphonic , not for your PU.

Before doing any work on a guitar you must know what is the source of noise and know what you are doing .

You may be sure your guitar do not have some bad work if mod .

1- Did you do any work on your guitar before ?
2- Did you bought this guitar new or second hand ?
3- Was alway noisy ?
4- Any mod ?

Guitar grounds must be good , Do you know how to test them

Single coil coil pickups are very sensitive to your electric appliance ; Neon , Halogen , PC , Cell phone , electrical motor . If you have any of these on your studio , noise may be normal .

5- Did you have GOOD ground on your amp / gear and on wall outlet ; Be sure , need some test not just looking if outlets have ground hole......

Please answer to questions 1 to 5 if yo want some help.

If you dig single coil sound/tone... you'll have to get used to it. You have single coil pickups. They are noisy. It can be no other way.

It's why so many folks go towards noiseless pups for a strat. You may wish to scope those out. Lot's of decent ones out there but, if you want that true single coil sound.... You have to live with the noise.
