The best way to get good answers is to put up some pictures, to really see what it is exactly.

That serial correlates to 1961.

Got any pics?

You can get neck plates with any number you like, and put them on any guitar.

+1

How does a guy not know that he's got a 1962 Strat or not?!?

Did your grandfather leave it to you? Did you buy it from some old widow?
Was it a pawnshop or graigslist purchase? Did you steal it?

I bought this Strat in 62/63. The neck plate is original so I know it is at least 62/3 but it may have been in stock a while so may be older

1961 would be most likely.

If you use photobucket.com you just copy and paste the [img] url into your forum post. Photobucket (and presumably other photo sharing sites...) gives you all the options and makes it very simple. The account is free...The image then loads when the post is completed.

If it doesn't have a power tube in the circuit...I'm not that interested

Nice guitar!

And it does look to be a vintage instrument.

It looks like it has been modded slightly, But the guitar seems to be in nice shape. Can you tell us about the mods ?

I made these mods a couple of years after I bought it. Before 5 way selectors you had to fiddle about with the three way to get extra tones. Even then you could not have all three on together, so I put a two tier rotary switch in and made a switch lever that could be accessed easily while playing. This enabled me to have the maximum combinations available from a three pickup guitar(at that time onboard pre-amps and active pickups had not even been dreamt of). Fuzz boxes and phazing/flanging etc were yet to be developed so other than the t/b boost on my VOX AC 30 (which I still have) was the only extra tonal option. After fitting this switch I realised I could also, when using a combination of pickups, have the ability to switch them in and out of phase with each other. Hence the two mini switches. The range of sounds from a passive three pickup system is quite spectacular.I must get round to drawing the circuit diagram before I shuffle off this mortal coil or no-one will know what the hell I've done. I do know this affects the value but it is a working tool and is used every gig and I never intend to sell it so its value is not of great concern. I was just curious as to what year it was made. It is an absolute dream to play and takes priority over all my other instruments. Taylor 814-Martin 638-Gretsch Nashville-Gretsch White Falcon and the list goes on. My Strat has been with me man and boy bless her. :)
