Greetings guitar players! I am a bassist but a bandmate of mine came to me for advice today on upgrading his Squire - and I know nothing. He found this guitar:

http://www.fender.com/series/deluxe/del ... -sunburst/

He found it used or highly discounted, I don't recall. I am asking on his behalf if this is a good quality instrument and a good value, or should he hold out for an MIA?

Thanks in advance.

Steve

Fine guitars.

The noiseless pickups sometimes need to be tweaked (height-adjusted) to perform at their best, but it's a solid instrument overall and parsecs ahead of a Squier.

The Deluxe Player Strat is a big step up form the Squier. Definitely a good buy.

+1 and if you read all the Ratings on the link you attached, you'll see Retro and I are not alone in this evaluation.

Very decent guitar, but note the 12" radius, not that it's an issue, but some people don't like the flatter fretboards.

And yet, some do! :) My guitar that's on order will have a 14". I like that aircraft carrier, landing field type of feeling on my fretboard.

What scale length with that 14" ?

An add to the already provided comments; it could be a good buy, unless he doesn't like the feel of the neck. If he doesn't, Try before buy.. :)

The 12-inch radius is not everyone's cup of tea.

Give it a whirl before writing that check.

They never put my rating on their site for that guitar. In my opinion it's a very poorly made guitar, the pickups are bland and lifeless.
