Not logical to be disappointed I know, especially since I have mine, but that model was easily one of the best Strats in the model lineup if you ask me. Consistently stellar build quality with just the right simple tweaks to a Vintage Strat, like the 5 way switch, tone control on the bridge pickup, nice big neck with 9.5 radius and Medium frets, great pickups and tone to die for. A simple and perfect recipe that does not molest the base platform, to me anyway, essentially a 62RI model with simple but effective tweaks.

So now we have the more generic Hot Rod "60's" series instead.

Gee Fender didn't we already have enough models with switching systems, 2 point trems, locking tuners, compound radius, railroad track frets and a pick guard I imagine most people would never "Hot Rod" a Vintage guitar with?

No offence to those who like the new series, just not what I would have done.

When did this happen? I just ordered and received a new one a few months ago. :?:

Not sure when it happened mate, but the 62HR is no longer in the online catalog (not that I can find, but I may have missed it). In it's place appears to be a guitar posing as a "60's Vintage Hot Rod"

I never worry about somebody else who didn't get theirs.

That is a shame about dropping those models. :(

I agree, that's why I got one. I had a 62 RI, terrific sound and quality, but I just couldn't get along with the vintage spec radius and frets. The HR, with bridge tone control, bigger frets, flatter radius, chunkier neck and RWRP middle pup is near perfection.

I also got the '57 HR, not quite as enamored with that one, but still a fine guitar. The noiseless pups and bridge hum-bucker aren't the best choice for a '57, but still nice, and very quiet, without any typical single-coil hum.

I do like the vintage-style locking tuners and two point bridge of the new models, but you're right, we already have the Am Deluxe for that.

The Hot-Rod 60's sports a compound radius fingerboard for effortless bending and chording, a feature the Hot Rod '62 lacked off.

Yes and thankfully the 62HR also lacked the switching system, the railroad track frets, the 2 point trem, locking tuners and a brown shell pick guard. I also own a US Deluxe so I have those bases and any perceived playability improvements over the '62 well covered on that guitar.

I was looking for the same model and no way to find it. In spite, I had the chance to find a FSR AVRI '62 Tropical Turqoise, that is waaay better than what I was looking for. I am very hnappy with, so I don't miss at all the HR that I wanted.

Sorry, Retro, I can not attach on this forum, not having any photo account, and directly I am not allowed to. Looks great, just like the Tropical Turqoise you cand find on web... and plays wonderful!

I'm with you for the most part too, Snowy. They are/were really great guitars and from what I've observed they flew mostly under the radar while they were being produced. I think a lot of guys didn't "get it" or didn't consider them. I'm sure the new models are nice too, but I'll take mine in Oly White any day.

That said, I would wager that there are still dealers out there who have the Hot Rod's in stock. You might have to turn a few stones over to find them, but I'd bet they are still out there. I always wanted to get a second one in 3 Tone Sunburst, never did. Maybe down the road I'll snag a pre-owned one.

Here's mine paired up with a Prosonic
