Basic tool is a ruler .

And you want to replace the nut ! This need some tools and some knowledge.

Start to buy a good ruler, small 6 inches avalaible at any hardward store. Usefull for guitar set up too . A good invest.

I find I get even more accurate measurements using a set of engineer's calipers.

If your new strat needs a nut and you don't have basic knowledge or tools for the job, I suggest getting a guitar tech to install the first one.

It's not rocket science but it needs to be done RIGHT for you to enjoy the guitar, in my opinion.

fenderfan91811 , what is the problem with your nut ? You could probably fix it before buy a new one ? Are you sure nut is defective ?
