Was hoping someone could help me choose a humbucker for my HSS strat. I bought a 2012 MIM HSS strat because I didn't care for the tone I was getting from the bridge position in my SSS strat. I realized there would be a volume difference between between the humbucker and single coil but I didn't realize it would be so much. The humbucker in it now also sounds a little harsh to me, so I've decided to just try a different one. I'm looking for a lower output humbucker that will mix better with the single coils in terms of volume. I've read that the Duncan '59, Alnico 2, or Burstbucker 1 might be what I'm looking for. I've also looked at GFS Mean 90's though I've seen some people saying they are even louder, which seams strange but IDK. I just want something that I don't have to re-adjust everything when I change from the bridge to neck position. I play classic rock and blues, so I'm looking for a more vintage tone.

Thanks!

An alnico 2 will sound nice and very straty go for a vintage output in a Seymour Duncan possibly. You may have to get a lonestar pickguard as well. Have you just tried dropping it really low?
A lot of times the Alnico 5 standard will brighten and you can drop output as well by dropping it some. Don't go to far or it will fall in.

Thanks very much Donny. The Alnico 2 was actually what I was leaning towards but wasn't sure as most of the Youtube reviews are playing heavier/newer music than what I will be doing, so I couldn't get a real feel whether it was what I'm looking for.

I have not tried adjusting the pickups as I didn't really care for the sound of the humbucker anyway. However, I will try adjusting it right now to see if it helps the volume. Thanks again!

It will brighten up and sound completely different if you give it space as much as you can.
Sounds like your playing clean and looking for balance to me.
They are actually nice humbuckers and set up right for the player work well.

I must admit I would probably have someone do it for me 'cause most of my DIY projects have not ended well :P Anyway, I actually hardly ever play clean. I like the tube overdrive sound and use a few dirt pedals like a tube screamer and OCD into a Marshall JCM 2000. I think I am going to go with one of the APH-1 but I wonder if I should just bit the bullet and get something to match in the neck position. I just really hate twisting a lot of nobs every time i want to switch pickup positions.
