Is there a way to know if is alder or poplar? I got a 1995 start plus and is a lot heavier than the japanise that´s why i reckon is not made with alder. I dunno if weight have to do with woods and tones. :?:

A pic and the full serial number would be helpful. Any guitar you love to play is worth keeping. I wouldn't get rid of it just because you can't indentify it.

**I have the same dilemma. My strat is an Fxxxxxx s/n, but it is stamped (engraved) in the back of the neck "Made in U.S.A." and also has a sticker saying the same thing just above the stamp. I removed the neck and it is pen written on the heel of the neck 11/26/89. I was never able to trace the serial # and thought maybe it was American made destined for export to foreign market that never made its way out of the U.S. Anyway I bought it off a coworker in 1990 with tags still on it. It was his brother's who couldn't play and didn't want to bother with it (fishy story). Any it plays great and I put some Tex Specials in it. As for its origination, I don't know if I'll ever know.

Mine neither. No Fender written on any tuners or bridge. Sounds like they are related.

I reckon they are related to. Any clue about the wood? this f series guitars are very weird, mine are lighter than air, sounds pretty good with the stock pickups though. My cuestion is if it worth to buy the vintague kit and some 69 or texas special (around 350 bucks) or it would be better to sell it for about let say 350, so with the 700 buy me a new one with all the spec above and save me a lot of hassle.
thanks for the help.

cheers.

I have to agree with others and say if it plays good and
you like the feel I'd keep it. It sounds as though it may
be a guitar that someone has built from two guitars,

But I still don't understand what "hassle" your instrument is causing you? "Lighter than air, sounds pretty good" - what's not to like?

Are you seriously planning to sell a good instrument because it doesn't say Fender on the tuners? Are you aware that the world is full of bona fide Fender guitars that don't carry a logo on the tuners, bridge or other parts? Depends where they are sourcing parts from at that particular moment.

Anyway. If you decide to sell, do us all a favor and mention it on a post here. Sounds like one of us could pick up a nice instrument at a knock-down price.

I agree! Like I said, I have the same guitar (except maple fretboard) and I dropped tex specials in it and blocked the trem. I own 8 guitars and this (and my new '08) are my favorite. I picked it up in 1990 for $300 and will never get rid of it.

Not neccessarily. This is what someone told me about my Fxxxxxx serial #, but it is clearly stamped on the neck Made in U.S.A. and dated on the heel of the neck as 11/26/89.

Guys I just removed the usa sticker hoping to see..made in japan, and sorprise!!! I found nothing... so still a mysterious ´cause the F serial means that this guitar was made between 1985-87 but the stamp on the neck is dated 1989.
