I recently bough a Japanese stratocaster from 1989, i guess is a 68 reissue ´cause the truss rod is on the heel of the arm, the weird thing is that it doesn't´t say made in japan and the tuning machines and the saddles don´t have the fender logo. I don´t know if is it worth to keep it and buy other strat like the power house or an American standar. :?:

by the way the srial number stars with and F plus 6 numbers and the logo is not the spaguetti one.

thanks.

A pic and the full serial number would be helpful. Any guitar you love to play is worth keeping. I wouldn't get rid of it just because you can't indentify it.

Well with the flag decal being on it (if it's from fender) I would say it's an American Built Strat; I think the Fender logo is CBS but I'm not sure; you can do some reserch on this web site concerning the Serial Number, that will ID the origin and year(s) it was produced. Good Luck!

According to the serial #:

Your guitar was made at the
Fuji-gen Plant (for Fender Japan), Japan
in the Year(s): 1986 - 1987

The USA sticker is big enough to cover "Made In Japan".

It would seem the the neck is a '86-'87 MIJ and the body an '89 ?

Mid 80's MIJ's are excellent guitars.

I just got a Japan made strat; it's beautiful in all respects I just posted pics tonight in strats... It's been a VER LONG time since crappy guitars have come out of Japan; I mean that I have seen; and with Fender's name on it so long as it's genuine I don't think you have to worry about a quality problem.
It could be that some one has put a different neck on that body....you might try following Fender's notice on confirming whether or not your Fender is real. the info is posted on the site here....

If it was mine it would stay with me. If you read the posts here about lost loves (guitars) you see most everyone regrets letting anything go. I had a 70s strat; beautiful ash in natural; rosewood fretboard; let it go for a les paul I hated....the strat is worth about 2700 now.....
You have to answer the money questions,,, it has to be worth it to YOU; it's YOUR money...you will get 50 opinions here on changing and upgrading all valid; just as valid as yours is. I'd keep her and be conservative in my mods; talk to chet; he's very knowledgeable and available on my space.

I get the impression you are waitng to hear someone say, "Wow, an 89 MIJ Strat! That's worth BIG BUCKS!! Get it on Ebay, quick!!!"

But it don't work that way.

You gotta ask yourself: does this instrument sound good? Does it feel nice to play?

If so, keep it and play it. The answers to the crucial questions have nothing to do with where, when or from what it was made.

If you don't like it, sell it and find one you like better. Ebay is where you're needing to look to get an idea what your axe might fetch, dollarwise. But a Japanese Strat in ordinary condition is not going to buy you a new American Strat. If that is your plan, think again.

So far as I know painted strats are made of Alder; the neck is maple with a little sye in the clear finish or it's aged. Painted strats aren't usually made of rare woods (so far as i know) I mean why would you paint ash, rosewood, walnut, or mahogany?
It probably has generic fender strat pickups; probably NOT custom shop or after market or it would be reflected in the purchase price.
