I was wondering if the new Mexican strat bodies need to be routed for humbuckers? Also, are there aftermarket premade pickgaurd kits with PAF style humbuckers with coil tapping?

The MIM Standard Strat body is routed S/S/H, with the bridge position capable of either single-coil or dual-coil pickup installation.

You might want to take a look at one of these Stratocasters

Yes, the Blacktop Strats have the universal route, also known as the swimming pool route. You will also find this universal route on older American Standard Strats. With this routing, you can install just about any combination of pups, from SSS to HHH and anything in between.

Yeah, I didn't know about it until after I bought. I was put off from buying an American Standard for a long time, mainly because of the swimming pool route, only buying after they changed. After trying it out, I find that it has a slight "echo chamber" effect, making for some nice tones, at least in this guitar. I think I remember reading that Billy Gibbons prefers the swimming pool because of the extra effect of the "echo". I might not want this type of sound on an American Standard though.

Yeah, but it's the "new & improved" swimming pool route. Even comes with a personal flotation device and a free 1-year professional life guard service contract :)

The Blacktop Strat has that rout because of the two humbuckers.

If they'd just route it HSH they'd have save some wood and satisfied the need for the two circuits.

Blacktops Strats all have two humbuckers or two humbuckers and one single so your right doc they needed that pool for them buckers in the neck, bridge. They could accommodate both version. HH or HSH
