I have a 2008 American Deluxe strat that i plan on putting 2 humbuckers in. I am looking at the SD hot rodded humbucker set. Any one have any experience with these?

I just don't get it. A brand new guitar and you're changing the pups. Why did you buy it if you wanted a different tone and didn't even know anything about the pups you planned on putting in it?

We see this question a lot here and it blows our minds sometimes. Maybe a Jackson would have been a better purchase?

All depends on what you're going for. I have an American Standard that I basically turned into a Big Apple Strat. Duncan '59 in the neck position and the Pearly Gates Plus in the bridge. I opted for a three way blade switch, One Volume, Two Tones, but now I'm thinking of adding push pull coil taps in place of the regular tone pots. Image

AMEN! When considering a guitar :
If you like the feel of a particular guitar but not the tone Keep Looking; if after an exhaustive search you return to that first axe see if it's available with the pickups you think you want or pickups that are simular to what you think you want; if you're still not satisfied take her home, play her the way she came; get to know her; fall in love with the guitar that she IS; then talk about a "main engine swap" IMHO. It's just that most experianced players here belive that one should get to know the guitar one has as they were built first THEN maybe think about changes. Most tone manipulation comes from the amp anyway.
I know I would like to learn more about the sublties of amp tone adjustments; all the guitar heros have "their" tone and few want to talk about it; it's a subject full of urban legends; can some one help us with this?
With the exception Equalizers stomp boxes are EFFECTS but not TONE (IMHO) changers; tone adjustments/changes come from pickups EQ and thetype of amp and the TONE controls on your amp.
Before going to the surgeon play with the TONE controls.

I play mostly rock. Some Tool covers that kinda of thing. I have a B2-AT 100 and a Mesa Boogie cab. Looking into some new High gain JJ tubes. Not big on distortion pedals.

We didn't mean to be harsh. It's a conversation we've had here many times. You'd be amazed the number of younger players who order a guitar online and immediately want to swap pups and are asking what kind they should get. It blows some of us away. Why did they order the guitar in the first place? Never said you should have bought a Jackson. It was just a suggestion since it's a strat type guitar with 2 humbuckers. Kinda what you are building. Also Jackson is a Fender brand so I was keeping the suggestion "in house" so to speak. 9 times out of 10 when we see this come up it's a youngin with little experience. It was easy to assume this was the case here also. Sorry for the assumtion.

Lol that's ok. Yea Jackson my be a Fender brand but in no way do they compare to a good strat. I just want a more defined sound not muddy like the SC pups seem to be. Also like i said in my other post I'm looking into some new tubes for my head as well. Anyway any opinions or other pup suggestions?

As for tubes I'm a JJ man all the way. For pups I'm not the best resource here, but I recently put some p90's in my 335 and just love em. I used to have a Seymour Duncan lil screamin demon in a mexi strat and that was one hot lil humbucker. Strat sized.

The Seymour Duncan website has one hell of a selection of sound files to listen to for every pup they sell. That might be a good place to check out.

for Humbuckers I'd go with some EMG active pickups (81/85 being the most common). They have really good tone capabilities without any effects, just a bit of gain and tone knob manipulation.

I myself am more of a SSS kind of player, sorry, my Humbucker experiences are limited.

For Rock, Classic Rock, Blues Rock you can use SD SH-1 '59 Model in the neck position, sounds like a PAF with more output. In the bridge pos.
you can use a SH-4 JB Model (one of SD's finest since 30 years) for Blues till classic Heavy Metal, more mids and high output but not a total burner.

Yea I really like the JB. I had a JB jr. in a mexican strat I used to have. I think im gonna go with the hot rodded set (Jazz-neck JB-bridge). I won't be satisfied until I try them. Thanks for all your replies.

for the tool sound the SD hot rodded hum set is a perfect choice
