Another Jeff Beck Strat rant:

WHY would Fender only offer this guitar in Surf Green & Olympic White? I have been on numerous boards, and everyone loves the purple. How can you have a signature model guitar of one of the iconic players and only offer two colors? Boring ones at that.

Who at Fender do I contact to make this point? I know they are a big corporation. You would think someone there would score some points by suggesting more colors to sell more guitars....

Agree. Purple would be an awesome choice for color on a JB Strat. So would a Sunburst ;)

well, inevitably that would fall to marketing, but you could probably do a Facebook thing or forum thing etc.
Purple WAS available from '90-2001.
Colors and other things change through the years, so ya never know when they will switch it up.

Another thing to consider: It may be crass to say, but similar to the availability of "Left-Handed" guitars issue and other things that folks ask for somewhat regularly, in the end the question is "will they sell?" So though the coolness factor is important, I can pretty much guarantee that if the "demand" exists, the "supply" will follow.
Ya think we can sell some 70's Starcasters? Well ok then. Let's. 8)
All the best,
rob

I GUARANTEE that the Jeff Beck Strat sales will SPIKE if you had more colors. I am surprised the custom Shop will not build ANY color you want and put on a baseball bat neck if you wanted....

You should go into the next meeting with the purple idea.

I would go for a Clapton Strat in Taos Turquoise and a Jeff Beck Strat in Mystic Black.

However I'm afraid the two former Yardbirds wouldn't "authorize" those finishes.

Mystic Black was offered as an option for the JB Customs at the time. The JB Standards were available in Vintage White, Seafoam Green and Midnight Purple.

You are telling me the artist pick the color themselves?

on signature models, yes, I believe that the artist has to "sign off" on any change to the agreed upon model.
makes sense to me!

Of the four aforementioned finishes Mystic Black was not a colour option for the JB Standards.

Though Mystic Black was initially an exclusive finish for the JB Customs, Jeff finally agreed to offer this colour on the Deluxe Pluses and a few Ultras.
