This is my second attempt at posting this, hope it works.

This is a strat that I'm currently working on. I hope to have it complete by this weekend.

Any thoughts?

(Maybe someday I'll figure out how to get the picture to show up on this forum)

Looks pretty cool. I use photobucket for my pictures, then just hotlink from there.

Thanks for posting the pic of the guitar for me...I'll have to look into Photobucket soon.

I know nothing about guitars other than the respect I have for anyone that can play them. I was looking for something different to do my art work on and thought I'd give guitars a try. Never working with them before, I found this Strat and a Telecaster body (both made of Poplar) at a price I could afford at the time. I knew the art work would be no problem, but a nice finish might be a challenge. At the time I wasn't aware that Poplar isn't the best choice of wood and will go with Adler or Ash on future guitars.

I'll post more pics when this ones complete and some of the Telecaster once it's underway.

Thanks for your replies.

Hi T-Bone-Guitars, welcome to the Forum.

I must admit, my heart sank a little when I saw the thread title. I didn't have high expectations for this method of artwork on a guitar.

However, my heart came back to full buoyancy when I saw the photo! Nice job, man! I like it. :)

Is it a hobby or do you do pyrography for a living? If the latter, then supposing you can do work like that at a speed that makes it cost-effective I bet you could fix yourself a nice little side-line in custom guitar work. Gonna be folks out there who'd like an instrument that looks like that. Interesting possibilities...

Are you going to do the front of the guitar too? We'd love to see.

And please come back and show us what you do on the Tele as well.

Power to your elbow - C

I'm already hard at work on the front of the strat, then the edges last. I should have something to show by Sunday as my day (real) job gets in the way. Once it's completed I plan on posting it on another site for auction as I have no idea what to ask for it.

I already have design ideas for the Telecaster. In fact, I have no shortage of designs dreamed up, it's finding the time to do them. I actually spend more time with the design than the burning as I tend to keep adding to it. My girl friend finally smacks me in the back of the head and says, "Burn the damn thing already!"

Keep checking back for updates and thanks for the kind words.

Custom jobs maybe an option down the road as well.

How will you finish it when you are done burning?
Any color or just a clear coat?

This guitar was meant to be an experiment of sorts. I knew the art work would be no problem but putting a protective finish on it would be a challenge as this would be the first object that would be functional. Everything I'd done to this point was for decoration so I could use a cheap, water based brush on finish. The plan was to clear coat it following the instruction from a book I found on the subject.
Also, never dealing with a guitar body before, and with out the hardware to test the fit, I'm not 100% sure that the routing is correct or complete.

My thought is not to put a finish of any kind on it (and no color either) thus allowing it's new owner to color/rout/finish it in any way they want or need.

Very nice. I would spray a clear coat over it. I would hate to think what someone might do to it.
