Hi!

Today I intended to assemble my SCN pickups set on my Squier Stratocaster LEFT HANDED and... I have serious problems. Prviously I had a JB JR for strat on bridge and stock pickups in the middle & neck position.

The problem is that the wiring diagram is different from what I have on my guitar (the 5way switch is different from the one shown in the diagram- I have only 7 pins, not 8) and I can't figure out where the new wires should go.

Can you please help me out? I've made some pics with my 5way switch and the diagram, maybe it helps. You cand find the link to the album below.

Thanks!
Valentin Tita

Your switch do not have the "standard "look ,sure it do same job . Why don't you put pickups's wires same as your original pickups SNC have 3 wires but 2 go to ground They work like 2 wires pickups.

The easiest thing to do would be to get a "standard" 5 way switch that conforms to existing diagrams and knowledge base for advice. Now and in the future. It would probably be a higher quality component as well.

If you must use the existing and don't get specific advice, then you have to run the switch through the 5 positions making notes on which lugs are engaged in each position.

So, it's like this, position 1 will engage a lug for the input of your Bridge Pickup and an output, position 2 will engage the lugs for both your Middle and Bridge Pickups, and so forth.

All that can seem overwhelming, just take your time and diagram it, in pencil!

Or just go buy a 5 way switch.

Here's one on ebay for under $10 & free shipping:

Good Luck

I've connected the wires like this:

pins:
7 - neck pkp
6 - middle pkp
5 - bridge pkp
4 & 3 soldered togethere - volume pot
2 - tone 2
1 - tone 1

...and it's working.

We have a Fender dealer in my country and I saw 5-way-switches available on their site but I don't think I need one right now... the one equipped it's still working and it doesn't make improper sounds when I switch positions (usually I use position 1 and 4... bridge and middle+neck). So the problem with the SCNs was solved.

On the other hand, I want to install my old JB JR for Strat on my Lefthanded Fender Standard Telecaster (mexic)... 3 questions: 1: do I need to change the volume pot with a 500k one? 2: do i need to install it "upside down" (remember I have a LEFT HANDED guitar) - and by this i'm asking if the writing on the pickup must be something like the S (from Seymour) should be towards the A and Low E string and the last "n" (from Duncan) should be towards B and high E string? 3: is http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=tele_2stacks this the wiring for tele (except the bridge pikup which remains the stock one?)
I saw a how-to "tutorial" on youtube but it shows only phisically how to modify the pickup (to fit in the tele body, but no details).

Thanks!
