HOLY SMOKES! $7,500.00 for a pristine Tweed Deluxe? $2,500.00 for one in rough shape?
While the BDRI will remain the top choice for another amp,...I will at least take a look at those other options you all have suggested! :)

The vintage amp game is not for those who are faint of heart or thin of means.

Regarding the Strat vs. Sheraton question… I consider them to be two seperate beasts. I'm intrigued by the preamp in the Roadhouse (though I have not used it) and would imagine that this guitar could cover a lot of sonic territory… however, it's not likely to mimic a semi-hollowbody, just as the Sheraton is not likely to mimic a strat. Sheratons and the rest of the 335 family of guitars are awesome but they are not as flexible as a strat (IMO), especially one with a 6-option pre-amp and 5 way switch.

As far as the pickups, someone else explained them pretty clearly already. I have to say (and I'm shocked to be doing so) that I am more than happy with the MIM pickups I used in one of my last strat build projects, though I did replace the middle pickup with a MIA Std. Strat pickup. They are pretty hot, and use ceramic magnets. So again for me, comparing them to Texas Specials (or even Tex-Mex) pickups is not a fair comparison. They are constructed differently and have different characteristics which may or may not suit your playing style or attain the tone your after… same with the two guitars.

It's really a question of apples and oranges, make it easy on yourself… I say get 'em both!
