Been looking at a Deluxe Roadhouse Strat,...question is,...how do they sound compared to just a Standard MIM Strat such as mine? Are the Texas Special pickups hotter sounding than the standard ones on my MIM Standard model? I have yet to try one and would like to know your opinions on this instrument before I do! I'm trying to decide between the Deluxe Roadhouse Strat or an Epiphone Sheridan II as my next guitar,...they're both about the same price at Sweetwater Sound. I aim to try them both.

Thanks
Dewey

P.S. Since I am a fan of the Hot Rod series line of amps,I may even throw in the Blues Deluxe RI amp to go with either one,...I gotta have a tweed amp! :D

I hate to be the one to piss on your parade but a Blues Deluxe is not a "tweed" amp, regardless of its cosmetics.

Dude! Seriously? :o It states right in the specs that the amp DOES have a genuine cloth tweed covering,...both on Sweetwater Sound's website and right here on the Fender website! So how can it have a genuine tweed covering and not be a genuine tweed amp? Sorry, but I have to disagree!

As you prefer.

Linen cloth does not a "tweed Fender amp" make.

It's a blatant case of symbolism over substance.

It's as specious as trying to equate a 2014 Camaro SS with a '69 Camaro SS396.

IMO, the MIM Standard ceramic pickups are to to the Texas Specials what a Corolla is to a Corvette. But hey, some people really love their Corollas  .

Gotta go with Arjay on this one. There's more to being a tweed amp than just the covering.

MIM Standard ceramic pickups are actually among the hottest fattest Strat pickups that Fender makes. Texas Specials are a little hotter than vintage-style Strat pickups, but they aren't as hot and fat as MIM Std pickups. Many people would prefer the overall tone of the Tx Spls, but if you're looking for hotter and fatter than what you've already got you may be looking for humbuckers (or really hot single-coils like Duncan Quarter Pounds or Rio Grande Muy Grandes).

The Sheraton II is of course equipped with humbuckers, and along with its shorter scale length and semi-hollow construction it'll be thicker, darker, warmer, fatter and hotter than just about any Strat.

As for the Tweed controversy, most people use "tweed", "blackface", "silverface" to refer to the circuit design and tone of an amp rather than the cosmetics. Slapping a blackface control panel on an old silverface Fender doesn't turn it into a blackface amp. If you re-cover a classic tweed amp with Tolex, it's still a tweed amp. A Hot Rod is still a Hot Rod regardless of whether it's covered in green Tolex or tweed or whatever.

It's a Genuine Fender Blues Deluxe and it's covered in tweed but that's all it is.
It's covered in tweed to give it the "look" of a Tweed amp but that doesn't make it a Tweed.
The real "Tweed" amps were discontinued some 50 years ago.

Click on this link. Once you're on that page, over there on the right under "Era" click on "Tweed" to see a list of the Tweed amps. You won't see Blues Deluxe listed under Tweed anywhere.

stratele52,...I meant Sheraton,...damn computer kept wanting me to spell it Sheridan as it kept underlining it in red as if it were misspelled. Anyway,...I am considering that as my next guitar. As for the tweed argument,I must say I apologize for my misunderstanding, but since I was not even thought of yet fifty or more years ago when the "tweed" amps were around,...to me,...the BDRI is my generation's "tweed" amp whether you view it from a cosmetic standpoint,...or circuitry standpoint. Okay,...from a circuitry standpoint,it obviously isn't as some say,...but viewed cosmetically it is a "tweed" amp,...just a modern version of the old tweed amps of years past. :) Don't get me wrong,...I would LOVE to have one of the original '50's era "tweed" amps,...but they are hard to find around here where I live.

I clicked that link you gave me,BMW,...you guys win this time. :o The BDRI is not listed, but I did see one old classic "tweed" amp that it comes pretty close to resembling,...and that would be the narrow panel Tweed Deluxe. Trying to find an original '50's era "tweed" amp like that one around here is going to be very difficult. What's the probability of finding one in at least half way decent shape and in working condition? And if found,...what can I expect to pay for one? What should I look for? I have never bought a classic/vintage amp before!

An original "player's grade" 5E3 tweed Deluxe in rough cosmetic shape will usually command $2500 or higher, and commensurately more as you move up to a collector's piece then ultimately a "museum" specimen. Fender's recent re-issues (Champ, Deluxe, Twin, Bandmaster) do a pretty respectable job of recapturing the hand-wired tweed mystique although marginal OEM components within these amps may tarnish the appeal for a true purist. For about half the price of a new re-issue you may find offerings from Victoria more to your liking. Their repro builds are a little more authentic and they are warrantied for life.

I saw a Tweed Deluxe in pristine original factory shape a couple of years ago on eBay. The owner was asking $7,500 for his "Buy It Now" option. The Fender EC Tremolux is a modified version of that amp, currently listed at most stores for about $2,200. Victoria sells a clone of that amp, known as the 20112 for about $1,700. The Victoria is excellent quality. Clark Amplification makes what is arguably the finest Tweed Deluxe clone available. Tungsten sells a slightly souped up version called the Crema Wheat. There are also lots of kits available to build your own clone. Kits range from around $600 to around $1,000.
