You can probably tell I am new to Strats. I always owned hollow bodies with 2 pickups and either 1 ro 2 tone controls is a no brainer.

But I can't figure out how the 2 tone controls are wired to the 3 pickups. Any help?

There have been a number of variations on how the tone controls work over the years. I would think the simplest method of finding out how yours work would be to go through all 5 positions and try both controls to see what happens.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

The traditional way is the tone control nearest to the volume is for the neck pickup, the other tone control is for the middle pickup, and the bridge pickup has no tone control.

There's a lot of variations with the controls. You need to look through the service diagrams on this site, find the guitar that is closest to yours, and you might get an accurate description of how the controls work. I say might because it can be hard to find the right diagram for your guitar. Here's a link to the list of service diagrams:

Thanks to all. Yes, I found that the tone controls only work for the middle and neck pickups.

Probably the most common setup on a Stratocaster... like 80%, maybe more.

Another part of why a Stratocaster has such a unique sound.

cheers!

Tone controls can differ depending the models.

Certain Strats are equipped with an active circuitry governed by an external power supply (9V).

In that case the tone controls (TBX, MDX) do affect the overall signal.
