You've seen this one, right......?

Image

It's actually my favorite and at 6lbs 10oz, the lightest Strat in my herd.

I don't recall seeing this one before, Arjay but I do recall you saying that you have a total of four hardtail Strats. I'm still looking for my first.

Perhaps you will be good enough to give us a group picture (front and back) of all four hardtails in your stable.

    Cheers!

Only three, and you've seen them all.

The backs are all the same, with flush-mounted string ferrules configured like a standard Telecaster.

My next (and final) Strat build will be a trem-equipped '56 clone in Taos Turquoise.

You can have both trem and fixed bridge on a guitar.

Got my first shipment of crap for this. No screws with the bridge. Any idea what kind of screws fender uses to attach a fixed bridge?

Tempted to buy these ...

The hardtail bridge requires flat-head screws to install it correctly.

Check with Steve at Angela Instruments -- he usually has them in stock.

I think they are #8x1" flat heads. $8 for about 10 million of them it looks like.

I'll check out the angela's site.

The #8 x 1" flatheads sound about right -- in nickel-plate.

I'm going with either stainless or brass #8x1's.

I'm now wiring the pickguard (as the wood bits haven't arrived) and I think my fender push pull volume pot is substandard compared to the CTS pots I'm using. Anyone have a good push pull pot suggestion? I'm using it to let me turn the bridge (or maybe the neck) pickup on whenever I want.

Using this wiring ...

I'm using this in one of my guitars to select a normal/tapped pickup output. Not CTS (or Alpha), but it is quiet and it works...and it fits.

A bit pricy, but I like the Push-Push action as opposed to the Push-Pull action (please, hold your NSFW comments...)

Cheers.

Ahhhh......nothing like a little Strat Porn to make a Sunday. Hard tails all around.  Well...back to the topic at hand...I'm interested in knowing OP's reasons for preference.

[We've discussed often Clapton's old Blackie which did not have a wood block..merely five springs with the claw driven flush against the body. He felt the trem system, as such, added something to the tone of his guitar which a hardtail did not. However, we've not yet ascertained why there's a wood block in the Signature Series guitars. the prototype I own does not have a wood block, nor is the trem claw set flush, but I could not vouch for the fact that it was originally set up that way.]

It is just that I don't use em. Blocking the trem does pretty much the same thing but is kinda half-assed. (At least the way I've done it.)

I expect that if FMIC felt that there was a sufficient interest and demand for a non-trem Stratocaster they would certainly have continued to offer one. As I indicated in my previous remarks, nothing is really needed between the bridge block and the body rout wall. The trem can be essentially 'stopped' by simply installing five springs, screwing down the trem claw and decking the bridge.

I'm not judging Fender.

I don't see you doing that. I was surprised to see the 'hardtail' Strat disappear from the products section years ago. I tossed it up to interest. The Teles, by contrast, are all hardtails by dint of preference.
