Is there anything other than the Robert Cray strat with a fixed bridge?

I don't know about other current production models… I want to say the RC is the only one but I may be wrong., I don;You used to be able to get an American Standard hardtail but they've been discontinued for at least 5 or 6 years now… maybe longer, I can't remember for sure. Hey Fender, if you brought 'em back I'd be first in line to grab one!

I have one I built and I love it… it has a different tone to it that is still very much strat, but leaning towards tele. It's a fantastic guitar… I've blocked the grew in two of my other Strats and it doesn't produce the exact same effect or have the same feel (IMO).

Are you looking to buy one or would you be inclined to make a partscaster w/ a hardtail?

I'm willing to build. But that gets expensive for a home built guitar. $675 for the cheaper body I'm looking at. $830 for the nicer one. That's with warmoth sourced pickups. I'd probably buy something else. So add $100 to either price. So I'd just need a neck. $200 - $430 depending on if I wanted MIM or MIA. Plus tuners. Plus controls... I'm right up around that Robert Cray or more.

I might buy a Carvin hardtail kit. Would be fun to put together.

There is of course the aforementioned Robert Cray.

Also the MIM Pawn Shop series has a hardtail Strat with a Tele-style pickguard, knobs and switch and a tele neck pup and a Enforcer bucker in the bridge... so it is far-afield from a traditional Strat.

The Billy Corgan Strat is discontinued but readily available... but again it's tone is far from that of a traditional Strat due to heavy DiMarzio rail pups.

Yeah, building your own does allow you to spec out parts of your choosing but can cost as much (if not more) than a stock model and the resale value is squat… you basically have to part it back out to recoup your $$$.

Heck, I think the Inca Silver and Sunburst RCs look pretty sweet… Inca silver is one of my favorite colors. I still kick myself for letting my 2000 American Strat w/ the Inca finish go… it was either that or not pay my bills.

:!: :!: :!: :!: :!:

I put this entire guitar together for about $765......

And that figure includes a brown-Tolex G&G case.

WD body in Firemist Gold -- $195
Loaded Fender pickguard with SCN's and S-1 switching -- $205
Kluson single-line vintage tuners -- $25
Assorted genuine Fender hardware -- $30
G&G case -- $85
Robert Cray neck leftover from a previous project -- $225 (estimated)

Retroverbial, That's a pretty nice looking guitar for $765…

DarkPenguin, what on earth are you looking at for a body that costs $830? Not that that's unheard of, I'm just curious. Their upgrades do add up quickly… I've messed around with their body builder.

Chambered body in birdseye maple with honeyburst and contoured heel. That gets you to $527. The rest is in filling out the hardware (including pickups) from Warmoth. I could buy that and pull the pickguard and pickups from my recent cheap partscaster. (The cheap partscaster being an ebay squier body with an ebay MIM fender neck.)

$365 would get me a poplar version of the same thing in olympic white.

Hmmm.... Reuse the pickguard, and ebay the squier body and mim neck...

+1

Nothing wrong with recycling. Most of us builders and assemblers do it habitually.

I found a chambered bodied hardtail with contour heel for $300. In black, which should be slimming, if not the exact color I was looking for.

Pleased.

I haven't checked recently but from what I can recall, there are currently three Strats in production that have a hardtail bridge:

  • Wayne Kramer Signature Strat
  • Robert Cray Stratocaster
  • Jim Root Stratocaster

HTH

Cheers!

That is indeed a sweet looking guitar, Arjay but my personal favorite from your hardtail stables is this one:
