Fender may have change the headstock for the HM Strat, but:

1. That headstock isn't an HM.

2. Fenders don't have truss rod covers, especially not big ugly hacked pyramid truss rod covers.

3. Those tuners are a joke.

I'd guess that as a fake.

that trussrod cover looks like an ibanez trussrod cover!

Epiphone's Strat clones had similar headstocks at one point...

I think I'm going to vomit all over my hands. That guitar makes me want to curl into a ball and roll down a hill into spikes at the bottom. That's how much I hate it.

No offence though, I just hate spikey headstocks...

I'm not an expert on Fender's history as far as production goes, but is it possible that Samick was responsible for Korean Fenders at some point?

Because that's awfully similar to the Samick-made Epiphone S-series of Strat clones.

Scroll down, there should be a Korean version of that Guitar. If not Japanese, maybe Korean?

Weird thing is he's asking 850.00 for that one, I paid $80.00 (usd) for the Black version.

It looks the same--it could be an Aria that somebody has redone the headstock with a Fender decal. These days those decals would be easy to make yourself. But I've seen counterfeit fender decals that go way back. I've never had one--but I've seen them. The headstock & machine heads match up--I'd say this was a good candidate.

I recently suspected a guitar I bought was a fake fender. For starters, it has the exact same serial numbers as this one. If you search google for the seriall number, you can find there are at least a dozen others with the same serial number. Counterfeiters are bloody lazy nowadays.

counterfitters are lazy because the public are apathetic. Their only as lazy as their consumer base dictates they can be. Caution is always expedient.

And I seen pickguards with 8 or 11 screws, never seen 9 before for a Strat body.

Thanks all. Really appreciate it despite now feeling like i got burned. Luckily, the rest of my collection is 100% pure! This one makes a good camping guitar now.

Maybe it plays good, only you know. You could always put more Fender parts in there and the replace that neck.

Someone was talking about a Strat on another forum with the same serial number but it had a maple fret board.
