Will a Fender Standard Stratocaster with three single coils sound bad with a distortion pedal because of the humming sound the single coil pickups produce? I was thinking about getting a Boss DS-1 Distortion

When the keyboard player cranks up the Leslie, you'll never hear a little hum.

This or any other band mate for that matter. The hum goes away while you're playing notes anyway. Just turn down your guitar's volume knob when you're idle.

I love the hiss of a Marshall stack at idle.

For a great example, give Deep Purple's "Made In Japan" a listen.

Can you hear the whirl of the idle Leslie too?
I'll have to break that album out.

The Zakk Wylde Overdrive Pedal is perfect for single coil pickups. DS-1 is good too. I use both.

My Fulltone OCD pedal sounds great... and even w/ the optional 18VDC power supply doesn't hum.

Have at it !!

cheers!

I had a ds 1 years ago with my strat and was never happy with the amount of gain. Through a cranked tube amp I am sure it would be fine but I personally prefer a Proco rat as it sounds great cranked and at bedroom levels. Depends what sound your after though. As for hum, it depends how close you stand to the amp. Some hum is normal for single coils but it's not enough to consider it a defect. See Hendrix for example.
