My guitar is new and it smells so good. The smells has a vanilla touch. I like it. Is it polish or something?

yeah could be. As I pull off my "Loni" in '96 and pull it off first time out of the case she smells like the substances in the glue for the plush insert.
Must be a "geiles zeug" after all the years, still smelling as was bougth yesterday.

No fair. When I pulled my used strat out of its case, it smelled like cigarettes and strippers. I guess that's what you get for buying from a gigging musician..

Haha actually all my guitars have a very distinctive and memorable smell that stays with them. It's pretty cool if you ask me.

Mmmm cigarettes and strippers taht takes me back... anyway mine had a weird smell but I think it came from the humid climate I'm in and the case staying closed all the time. I keep it open as much as posible to air it out it seems to have more of the natural wood smell again

I play harp (harmonica to all you non-blues cats) as well as guitar, and a harp not only smells like its environment, it TASTES like it, too

I'm not a smoker, but if I play a harp in a smoky bar, it will taste like cigarettes the next time I play it (it's especially bad on harps with wooden combs--the Lee Oskars and Hohner Special 20s with plastic combs aren't as bad at this).

Back in my 20s, when I kept Miller Brewing Company and Senor Jose Cuervo in business, my harps eventually tasted like warm rancid beer and tequila after some point (they would be replaced soon thereafter). I quit drinking (for other reasons) and that problem has gone away.

Second-hand Bar-B-Q is not the best flavor on earth, but it's better than others...my band plays a Crawfish Boil thrown by a construction company each year and I have yet to eat any Crawfish--because that particular hamonica would have to be thrown away immediately; I wouldn't even be able to put it in the case with the others.

As far as guitar smell, I once bought a 1956 Airline archtop acoustic at a garage sale. It smelled like old dentures and wet dog for quite a while. I cleaned and polished that thing a million times, but I finally had to put it in a case with some cedar balls (same pricipal and size as moth balls, but made of cedar wood). It eventually absorbed enough of the cedar scent that it no longer smells like an old man's labador retriever.
The same thing will work if you want a particular smell (vanilla or cinnamon are both nice) with one of those little car freshener things.

^^^ I like to dip my harps in wine. Makes then play ANDC taste really sweet.

I have one strat that has a very strong "magical" factory ordor... it was made in 2004 and still has that cool smell. I know if I left it out of the case the smell would dissapate.

When I bought an Ibanez a while ago, (mahogany unfinished body) it smelt really bad. It actually smelt like crap.

A guitar that smells like crap - that's just not right. There are so many out there that sound like crap a person shouldn't have to smell it too

I recently took one of my strats in for a fret dressing. When I got it back it had a strong smell that I didn't like. A few weeks later I took a friend's guitar in to the same place for a fret dressing, and it came back smelling the same way. It's probably some cleaner or conditioner that the tech put on the finger board. But, thankfully, as I keep playing it, the smell is going away. I'll probably put my own conditioner on the fret board when I change strings. I'm sure that'll help things out a little bit. At least the tech did a great job.

New here as i just recently started playing, but I bought a MIM strat HSS in electron blue back in march, and lo and behold, i kid you not, it smelled like limes.

Maybe they lowered the price becuase they smuggle them in with fruit shipments now :D

My guitar smells like old strings, you know how metal smells when it get's old and rusty and how your fingers smell after playing on the strings for awhile, well, that's it, a metal scent. With a little smoke smell thrown in.

IT'S GREAT!!! hahaha.

I've got a mid 60's Guild hollowbody that apparently spent a few decades in some old ladies closet. Just can't shake that old musty smell.
