Ceri; I just barely caught you saying "I've done you a little sketch". If you did little sketches like that in charcoal, you could probably make a good living selling them. Nice work!

I believe someone gave him similar advice many years ago.

Thanks for all those replies. The bit about cutting the E string longer seems good advice.

I finally got the thing together last night, after reading this on an old archive of some forum:

I've found that it sometimes help keeping the thinnest strings in the post hole if you "fold" them - stick of the string into the post and bend it as already described. Now take that bend and stick into the post hole and bend. Having the the string end doubled into the hole can sometimes add a bit more friction and keep it from popping up.

I did that, which means that you end up with a sort of elongated loop in the last half-inch of string, and you put that into the hole. It held !!!

Thanks again for the suggestions, and I'll cut longer next time. :)

 Haha - yes, they did. Ma-a-a-a-any years ago.

Drew, thank you. Since you mention it, this is my day job:

Florence in Italy, from the top of the cathedral. Watercolour on paper, 330 x 205 mm / 13 x 8 inches. (Kinda small and fiddly.)

There were A LOT of steps to climb every day to the top of that church to go to work. It's a dirty job, but someone has to do it...

Anyway. End of hijack. Back to guitar string tying.

Cheers - C

Put string in hole make kink. Wrap string halfway around post bring straight through slot, wind her up.

I've always strung with them this way: trim the string about 2 tuners beyond (i.e. for the low E trim it off at the D tuner, etc.). Stick the end of the string in the hole, bend it part way around the post, hold it down with your right hand and wind the tuner with your left hand. With .009s I usually go 3 tuner lengths on the B and high E to have a few extra winds. The key is holding the string down to get tight winds.

Do what these say--I have them on my Mustang, and I prefer them to the regular tuners with the holes.
In fact, my Iceman has both holes & slots--and at first I used the holes, but after I got my Mustang I started using the slots.

Although I'm not a fan of changing strings (The action of doing it, not the having new strings), I prefer the vintage tuners.

Wow, that picture is amazing. Thanks for sharing it. Some years ago, I checked out some of your art work. I remember the painting of that bridge....

Haha - thanks guys! :)

My sunny little pictures are not exactly rock and roll, so don't really belong on a guitar Forum.

Though, I've long meant to paint a picture on a Strat body - and if I ever get round to it I will post about it here. Till then...

Back to tuner posts. 8)

Cheers - C
