Well, not really old, it's a candy tangerine usa deluxe strat from 2002. I bought an arm on ebay and it won't fit in my deluxe strat body (the part # is 36534 with some zeroes before and after the digits). Any ideas what part number I'm looking for or a shop that might have one?? Any help is appreciated!

Hi tantamo: the 2002 Am Deluxe had the pop-in trem arm, I believe? So then I think the one you want is this?

http://www.fender.com/store/tremolo-arm ... rm-chrome/

Failing that, you could also try here:

http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/trem_usastrat.htm

or one of the many other aftermarket parts sellers on the internet - WDMusic, Allparts, Callaham, GuitarFetish, etc etc.

Or if you're outside the US let us know and we'll suggest alternatives.

And of course, any Authorised Fender Dealer will either stock the arm or be able to order it.

Any help?

Cheers - C

Thank you for the assistance. I do need a pop in arm, that arm you linked to however is the one I purchased off of ebay, 0036534000. It is too large and won't fit in the bridge of the guitar I have. did they change the size of the arm since 2002? or is it possible I have a different model of guitar? It's a 2002 with a non-contoured heel if that provides any clues.

The deluxe bridge has two allen screws for fit and tension.
You should be able to see these if you look underneath at the back having removed the trem cover.
By "does not fit" ...does it fit in the hole.
If so you may need to tweak those allen screws.
Occasionally the spring clip can break or get bent but that is unusual.
Photos always help :D

Either it's not really a deluxe, or those tension screws came later than the model I have. I took off the springs and removed the bridge completely from the guitar and there are no adjustment screws of any kind, anywhere on the trem. Does that suggest it's a screw in rather than a pop in? as far as pics - this is the bridge. By 'doesn't fit' I mean the trem arm circumference is too thick - if you try to push the arm into the hole it won't go down at all. this is as far as it goes.

I'm looking down into the trem arm hole and i believe it's threaded...so I'm not sure where to look for an arm now!

Possibly an American standard then. Why did you think it was a deluxe. The Deluxe serial starts with DZ and the standard just Z if that helps.
Of course without seeing more pics it could be a combination of parts but the bridge looks like a standard...
As an aside I have seen some bridges where the hole in the plate has moved slightly in relation to the block so that the bar cannot be easily inserted. This is easily detected since when looking down the holes do not line up. This can also be remedied but is probably not the issue here. The issue is you have the wrong arm. :D

Hi again tantamo: Fender's page says the arm I linked to fits Am Deluxes from '86 to present. Which sounds like the spec hasn't changed in that time.

On the other hand, the other site I linked to - this:

http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/trem_usastrat.htm

- shows two different American Deluxe arms. So maybe you've got the wrong one? I don't know enough about Am Deluxe bridges over the years to be sure about that.

However.

Did the 2002 Am Dlx come in a version with a non-contour heel? If it did I don't remember it. So then it sounds like jimmy_james is right: it's probably an American Series Strat (which is what the Am Standard was called at that time).

The Am Series/Standard trem arm is readily available, from that same page at Guitar Parts Resource, or Fender's shop on this site, or umpteen other places.

Good luck - C

Certainly did, I've got a partscaster with a 2005 Deluxe body that doesn't have the contoured heel.

EDIT: 1001 ... 1002 ... 1003 ... I don't know if you heard me counting. I did over a thousand.

From what I remember 2002 was the transition year - you'll find American Deluxe bodies with both the regular heel and the contoured heel. What I don't know is when that change happened on them - it wasn't something that was advertised; it was just one of those "specifications subject to change" changes. After that - all American Deluxe Strat bodies should have the contoured heel. Of course with Fender you never know if something might get found in the warehouse and used later.

To the OP - that does look like an American Standard/American Series bridge to me; an American Deluxe bridge should have chrome plated saddles and those look like the satin finish one.

Hi John. Ah-ha - I was just reading elsewhere about the contour heel arriving in 2002. You beat me to it! :)

What I'm so far failing to find chapter and verse on is the bridge block. At that time did Deluxes have a full-size block, or the skinny one that came on the Am Series Strats?

Anyway. Good call on the saddles. That's strong evidence.

Cheers - C

I agree about the saddles. I had an American series with satin saddles. The deluxes had polished stainless steel ones. Would also explain the threaded hole.

Thanks all, Sounds like you've solved it! I contacted the seller and he agreed to send me a trem arm but he wouldn't specify that it was original to the guitar - I'm not necessarily expecting it to fit but it sounds like the american series trem arm is the correct one so I'll just pick that up if it doesnt.
