I just bought a used '05 hardtail Am. Strat. What a freak'n guitar!!!!!
I was of the mindset that I was looking for a tele with a strat neck. Then I picked up this Olympic White jumbo fretted beauty. It's a bad guitar in as I
get home from work pick it up and when I look up it's 9-10 o'clock at night. I think with the string through tne body setup you get a lot more oomph out of the sound. It's a very cool instrument. Peace. J.J.B.

Got yourself a rare bird there. Don't see many hardtails around. Isn't that interesting regarding your observation's about the guitar's tone. We've been beating that issue to death in these columns in the past few days and many of the 'experts' out there say it ain't so.

If you look closely at Ron Woods strats you'll see that there is no back plate.

Enjoy your guitar!

If Fender makes Hardtail Srat, why don't they make a Tele with a Vintage Strat-style Tremelo? :? Oh, that gives me an idea for the dream guitar thread.

That's why there's a Custom Shop. For your dreams and your pocketbook,

FYI: The early Tele Plus's had the American Standard bridge of that period.
Very different idea for a Tele.

Clapton never used a "whammy bar". Didn't like 'em. Certainly didn't put a cramp in his style. With that wide finger vibrato of his, he didn't need one.

Rory Gallagher also blocked his vibrato.
I blocked mine, like the sound of the springs vibrating in the body.

I have a hardtail strat from the 90's. It's a nice guitar.

Exactly what Clapton thought.....that the stopped block and springs added something to the tone that a hardtail could not. Each to his own.
Those players out there seem to be having a good time.

I tested my AmStrat HSS at the locale guitar center and like the playability, sound, and feel of it. Even though I don't use the whammy when I play, I bought it anyway. I left the silver tape over the whammy hole on the bridge. Eventually, I ended up blocking the bridge. That had absolutely no negative effect and seemed to help sustain some.

So, you can get either a hard tail, or a whammy capable axe and not use the whammy. Whether you would block it or not would be up to you.

Just this old guitar hacks opinion.
