To me, that is to say to my ear, there are 3 guitars that are indispensable: A Stratocaster, a Telecaster, and a Semi-hollow Body (ie. ES335).

IMHO, if you have these three, there's very little you can't do.

That's not to say that these are the only guitars one should own, I would never say that. In fact, I'm sorta gassing over an Albert Lee MusicMan, though it will be a long time, if ever, before I acquire one.

A Les Paul ranks 4th with me and always has. I don't hate or dislike them, and realize that they too have a major role in R&R History. But I've just never had a visceral feeling about one.

I do appreciate the Seth Lovers in my Heritage H-535, and love the flatter radius, shorter scale and especially the solidity of the set neck - not better or worse, just an option as others have said.

Then I got my FSR Custom Telecaster w/ H H active EMGs.

This is really similar to a Les Paul w/ it's Mahogany Body & Mahogany Set Neck, 15.75" radius and 24.75" scale and twin humbuckers. A big plus is that being Tele-shaped, it has a very familiar feel to it.

I loved this guitar almost instantly, and if it is really so similar to a Les Paul, I may have to give them another look.

cheers!

I would add a good acoustic to round out that Superfecta.
