The red of his recent custom-built Ferrari?

Image

I seem to remember Ferrari mixed that metallic red for Eric specially, is that right? In some of the photos it looks an absolutely gorgeous colour. Wasn't there some talk of the Custom Shop doing him some stage guitars in that shade? If so, we'll be seeing them next year I guess. And then maybe, just maybe, there'll be some available to the public a year or a few after that.

Sort of an Eric Clapton Farewell Signature Strat.

Even I might plump for that one! 8)

Cheers - C

@ Ceri: Mostly wishful thinking on Chromeface's part, thus far, to the best of our knowledge and belief....until we see it in the flesh.

Although I'm not much of a fan of red guitars I could go for that color. Wow.
I'm still hoping Fender will do something color wise with the standard production EC models. Doing these limited run Custom shop versions is cool but why not let the average players out there have some color and not have to spend 5K?
I'm curious about his string gauge change too. I thought he has been using Ernie Ball 10's forever. What did he go to?

@ JoeN: If Clapton agrees, and the company runs true to form, as with the LTD Daphne and EC Grey, the guitar will be an LTD Custom Shop Team Build. At the going rate for today's market @ $6000 MSRP would not surprise me. I expect that would translate to $4500 street +/- a hundred bucks or so depending on how your dealer negotiates.

Yes, you are probably right. I would be great to see it be less expensive, but not likely.

As long as we are dreaming of new EC Strats... I would like one in Antigua!

Hee-hee - wishful thinking on my part too, Doc! Here's another shot of Eric's Ferrari, showing the colour a bit better:

I don't care much about cars - but I'd LOVE a Strat that shade! Oh boy...

I believe Eric's Ferrari red is a unique mix just for his car. But other nice candy reds are readily available that are very close. And I've been known to refin people's guitars merely for the price of the paint and a beer or two. Just sayin'...

It's been done. An FSR by Guitar Center several years back. Search eBay and Craig's List.

Both EC Grey and Daphne Blue were also available as Master Builts.

I guess they're gonna release those LTDs as Master Build versions as well to reflect the artist's personal tastes (standard tone pot, lack of signature on the head, etc….).

This guitar would be his last personal stage axe before his retirement off the road in 2015.

All his personal guitars are strung with regular Slinkys (10-46). He used Super Slinkys (9-42) until late 1993/early 1994.

One of the reasons he switched from 9s to 10s is the tendency of light gauge strings to break.

He has talked about slowing down from the road for a few years now. I have heard actual date, just that large around the world tours are going to at some point come to an end.
